Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

Well here is a mocup of the Armys on Parade so far!

unfortunetly i have never tried to sculpt a rock cliff face before. any tips from anyone?

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

Looks pretty damn epic. You could just use a soldering iron or a hot wire cutter, and sculpt away.

the problem is the foam that i used ws acualy Foamboard, so there is cardboard, with a foam core so a hotwire cutter would not cut it properly. in hindsight that was kinda a stupid materials decision...

Amazing work!

Re: Greek themed Lizardmen (Armys on Parade Update!)

Hey guys been a wile sorry about that.

I need your help!

Im working on the last steps for my armys on paraide just painting it, and i had a idea, that the sides and back really should be coverd it looks so much better and gives the feels more of this is just a part of a epic landscape that is cut out instead of just a small bit of land sticking up out of nothing (if that makes sence)

Anyway here is my question.

What should i do with the walls and background?

one idea i had was mirroring ether side, what do you guys think? it gives a cool multiplication effect.

I would not mirror the entire side maybe from the top of the first staircase to the back, otherwise it would multiply the greater deamon of Tzench which would look kinda silly.

p.s. yes the greater deamons wings are wrapped in tissue, its because i painted each feather individually (he has the wings from the empire griphin) and i don't want the paint job to be damaged.

And then i was thinking maybe a Sky backround around the temple but the inside of the temple (everything under the roof) would be a black or dark brown. to give the feeling that there is more to it.

so what are your thoughts? any ideas or recommendations for side panels and background? or maybe a way to put the mirrors that looks a bit classy, like some kind of boarder for the mirrors.

I don't have alot of time left till the entry date and i have been working on this army and this armys on parade diorama all year and i really want it to be amazing.

thanks for all your help guys!

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

Perhaps another set of pilars on the sides with mirrors between them.
also you could but mirrors between the pillars in the back.
or you could do a nice printed backdrop of som greek runins or something.

im a bit worryed now about the mirror, you know i dont want to have a situation where we have a epic diorama destoryed by some stupid corny mirrors if you know what i mean? like its a risk it could be awsome or it could really look like shit and brake up the scene.

but this idea of a greek ruis backdrop can you explain that idea i bit more it sounds cool, do you mean like just put a panel along the back side, leaving the sides open and that back panel is of a greek ruinscape?

thanks for the feedback, i got around 40 days left and i really want to pick up the gold for my contry. everyone who goes to my local GW hears storys of the "greek lizardmen" i really dont want to let them all down xD

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

Yea like a photographers backdrop sort of thing.
get a nice large print and mount it to foamboard
with a picture frame holder thingie.

Maybe something like this....
(The trick is finding one with the right perspective.)
(verticle colums and a fairly low horizon. )

or this....

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

one thing im worrying a bit about is i dont see a single other Armys on Parade with a backround? do you think its even nesisary? i mean i know i have a problem with putting to much stuff on and in the end its overdone.

Im worried maybe im adding stuff for the sake of adding stuff and its not needed, i mean i have probly enough content for 3 deforent dioramas in my current one. have a look what do you think n810, am i just overdoing it?

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

So what does everything think?

p.s. what do you think of the Greater Daemon? that was a bit of a passion project that i found a use for in the end xD

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

OMG that looks sick! temple looks amazing! great conversion and theme work. /applause

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

progress update.

At a gamesday about a year ago i picked up a few forge world weathering powders and i have never used them before and i though they may give a more natural look to the stone cracks and damages areas so i started messing around with them im pleased with the result.

Note the botom left is lacking a bit of powder i noticed this after taking the pic.

I also have been doing alot of work on the Deamon army that is beeing summond out of the vortex aswell as the greater deamon himself, i have been trying alot of new painting concepts useing wet pallets and doing alot of wet and dry blending.

p.s. after i finish painting all of the daemons i will be putting thick layer of water effect over the vortex which will help make it 100000x glossier but also i think make it look more like liquid.

what does everything think? any recomendations?

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

The screamer coming out of the water is nothing short of amazing, seriously, that looks incredible.

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

Looks amazing :jawdrop:
not a lot ot improve on...
maybe just another light dry brush of the rubble ?
I supose that could use another highlight...?

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

WOW...this is awesome stuff man done to the very last detail and model both daemon and lizardman. Honestly I don't know where it needs any improvement. However, anything you do add to it will only make it that much more amazing! Gonna be keeping my eye on this one.

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

WOW! thanks guys for the kind words!

honestly im kinda shocked at how nicely the screamer came out as well xD

i have been playing around alot more with my airbrush and the more i use it the more i am seeing how it can be a fantastic addition to painting a mini, its just sooo easy to blend colors with it.

Just look at the screamer bellow, which is going to be exiting the Vortex (with the spiral in the middle in front of the steps trailing behind him.)

i spent HOURS trying to make the wings look good then i got so pissed off i just took my airbrush to him in a fit of painter's rage and it came out ALOT better then i expected. then touching it up and doing the face and scales with a normal brush. i think it is coming out nicely (not done yet) the airbrushed blending can add so much character to a model so easily.

Re: Greek themed lizardmen Plog (including armies on parade

Indeed, I am always pleased with the airbrush, even when I'm not. I rarely find it not worth the effort to try.

i really think it makes a beautiful complement to a normal brush, i mean the things one sucks at the other does brilliantly with ease.

what airbrush do you use? and do you use a compressor or just cans? i got a fairly cheep one but for all i know its quite good i never had any problems, but then again i am new to airbrushing honestly. it may be completely fucked but im so thick i think its awesome that paint is even coming out haha!
