Blog Joshua's Paint Blog - Back from the dead!

Good advice, I will stealthily take this onboard as well :P
Really liking the blood warriors - nice to something other than red - also a fitting colour for the blood
God that loves a good skull

For the first time in my painting career I have hit a nasty wall. The wall is the shape of 10 blood warriors. I hate this unit. I hate the model and I hate how much time i've wasted on the paint job.

I've spent hours and hours on this one squad and overtime I've just made them worst. I had a terrible plan for painting them and i've made a million mistakes. It sounds dramatic but it makes me never want to paint a Blades of Khorne model again.

Has anyone else experienced total failure painting a unit? I think the best thing for me to do is to shelf these guys and get them out of my sight...

You certainly

You are certainly not alone !!

For me I quit for a few years after a very similar unit of tau I painted up - difference was I lived the models and was desperate for them - got them, put them together but struggled so badly to paint them well - I tried and tried but failed so bad that I ended up hating them (haven’t touched them since)

The problem was that I hadn’t painted clean armour before and the skills I did have couldn’t be used to a good effect - is advice thinking about what you want them to look like and test/try on other models and get the technique nailed.
If you keep trying and keep failing it will just piss you off, in the words of Elsa ‘Let it go’ :D

I boxed them up pulled out some Lizards. I already feel better about things. When I think about how much time I wasted on that unit it is frustrating, but it taught me I really don't like painting that type of a model. I much prefer painting organic things. Not sure what I'm going to do with my BoK army now haha.

Lol, you may dig them out in the future :D
It’s a hobby that is very easy to enjoy - just make sure you are actually enjoying it :)

So small update. I scrapped my BoK army and traded it for some Sylvaneth. My hobbying is sort of all over the place right now. I am in the middle of stripping those models but I'm hoping to share my progress with them soon.

In the meantime I wanted to do something fun so I pulled out my SoulWars Nighthaunt. I wanted to do a different paint scheme on them. Below is what I started. These are only the base colors, so no highlights or shading, but it's interesting! I need to pick a secondary color for the "flames" on the bases and paint the weapons.

Not sure if I love it or hate it. Let me know what you think!

Really great looking crop of skinks

Thanks. I struggle finding hobby time lately and I have a lot of cool grey models on my desk so I keep putting them off but they are really close. I've also accumulated a ton of great basing material and I think they would look great on some jungle bases.

I have project ADHD and I started rescuing some poor Sylvaneth that I picked up on eBay. I took some additional pictures along the way to document the process.

After soaking in some purple stuff time to scrub!!

Basecoating completed. Faded to almost black.

First wash. Second to follow and then i'll go back in with some careful airbrush work to bring back some highlights then finish the details.

Good job!
No such thing as too many Dryads for Sylvaneth!
Just like Skinks for Seraphon and Skeleton Warriors for Legions of Nagash. :)

Finally finished with my 40 man unit. I left some spaces on the bases because ill be adding some painted plastic plants and purple flowers which will help add some color. i just need to paint like 4 feathers but ill calling them battle ready!!! Finally complete. Hoping to share some work my Bastilladons soon.20190817_080353.jpg 20190817_080340.jpg 20190817_081201.jpg 20190817_081223.jpg
