Tutorial Match play Lists I often Use

2000pt Shooting

This is a possible 2k variant for the Double Bastiladon List:

Allegiance: Seraphon
- Mortal Realm: Ghur

LEADERS:
Slann Starmaster
(260)
- General
- Command Trait : Great Rememberer
- Artefact : Gryph-feather Charm

Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160)
Skink Starpriest (80)

UNITS
:

4 x Razordons (160)
4 x Razordons (160)
4 x Razordons (160)
10 x Skinks (60)
- Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
10 x Skinks (60)
- Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
10 x Skinks (60)
- Boltspitters & Star Bucklers

BEHEMOTHS:
Bastiladon
(280)
-Solar Engine
Bastiladon (280)
-Solar Engine
Bastiladon (280)
-Solar Engine

TOTAL: 2000/2000
EXTRA COMMAND POINTS: 0
WOUNDS: 107

This might actually be better than the standard Thunderquake Starhost. I plan to do some test games, In theory adding more Razordons and Bastiladons is better than allowing them re-rolls. This comes at the cost of a slower depoyments and the loss of an EotGs and additional artifact. However, this list is much less reliant on turtling than Thunderquake.

After a few test games this list has preformed slightly better than Thunderquake for me. Here are things that stood out to me:
  • The healing from Thunderquake is greatly missed.
  • The additional Razordons make up for the lack of wound rerolls.
  • Rerolling saves might be my favorite part of Thunderquake now.
  • The games that I have played with these list seemed equally winable by either of the variants.
  • This list reminds me too much of playing 40k.

Hahaha yeah that's a good one. It lacks mortal wounds a bit, but man that's enough shooting for casual opponents to flip the table. Three Bastis alone is scary enough for many armies.

Any chance someone could give me a brief run down on how to best use the 1000pt Shadowstrike Starhost against a 1k fyreslayer player? What do deploy where, the priorities etc?

It really depends on what their list looks like. If they have Hearthguard Berserkers you will need to kill their supporting heroes with Razordons or Spells and then attack their now vulnerable Berserkers with Rippers.

If you can provide a more detailed list of what you expect to face then I would be better able to offer more tailored advice.

Planning to try out this Shadowstrike List over the weekend. It has been a while since I fielded any EotGs and that needs to be remedied. The number of drops is a bit disconcerting. Jav Skinks in SS Battalion.

My opinions after a few practice games.

Note: List has been updated to reflect changes.

Yeah Shadowstrike + many drops is indeed a bit dangerous, it makes it relatively vulnerable to an alpha strike.
A scary looking list though.

I like the lists you make
I see you like Razordons a lot, in nearly every list they come along ;)

What interests me is that i do not see a Firelance Starhost list.
I am planning to run a 1k battle with it. I'll post my list separately to discus it(so this thread is clean with your lists ;) )

Glad you enjoy my list. RAZORDONS!

The main list I bring to events uses the Firelance. It is really a Shadowstrike list, but I use Dracothion's Tail (which includes Firelance) in order to gain 1drop and allow for further deepstriking.

This list was inspires by @Imrahil. Look to send the ScV on Co into a horde for Betrayers Crown. Use the Skink Starpriest to buff up the Carno to keep him healthy and killy.

I played a few practice games this past weekend using the 2000pt Shadowstrike Starhost. I ended up dropping the Skinks unit size to add Cogs and BwV while only bringing 6 Rippers to make room for a Saurus Astrolith Bearer. Sadly, due to the number of drops I was forced to go first in all the matches. However, this did allow me to cast BwV and Cogs while outside of unbind ranges.

All three matches ended up being wins for the list. It is possible I will replace my DT/SS list with this one. I need to play vs my LoN and Idoneth buddies before I know for sure.

Things that stuck out to me in my games:
  • Deploy EotGs within 25" of an enemy unit.
    • This will likely mean deploying them towards the middle of the phase. I got lucky my first game and my opponent deployed something in range even though I made the mistake of deploying an EotGs as my first drop.
  • Summon Additional Rippers with EotGs turn one if possible.
    • Having to go first means you likely will get less value from Bloat Toads. Having additional BT helped greatly in 2 games.
  • Hang onto summoning points if your Slann is safe and you don't need the summoned units to score an objective.
  • I would consider changing my Slann's Command Trait to Vast Intellect. In most cases I didn't need double LoSaT.
  • The only time I used LoSaT twice was to move both EotGs out of combat so I would have room to Summon if I rolled a 14-17.
  • Do your best to zone enemy Wizards away from dispelling your BwV and Cogs.
  • Get your Slann in Cover. A 2+ rerolling save with BwV, Cogs, Look Our Sir, and Misamic Blade is pretty crazy.
    • In fact. I will be changing to the realm of Fire for Ignax's Scales. My Slann almost died to Evocators Mortal Wounds after saving all their standard damage.
  • 10" is a lot of room to play with. It was much easier than I thought to keep my Slann in range of both EotGs.

Well, now I have a list to build towards. Just need 2x EotGs.

The list is pretty direct. Just summon as much as you can and flood the board.

I love this list and the potential of it. Did you tested it already? How good doe it work?

I have used it a few times. It is ridiculous. The down side is you want to own about 3k points worth of summoning sideboard. At least 100 Skinks and 12 Rippers and/or Terradons. Salamanders and Chameleon Skinks aren't bad summons either depending on board state.

So, I ran the modified Shadowstrike Starhost at an event this past weekend. I dropped both units of Skinks to 10. Lost 3 Rippers. This was to add cogs, BwV, and an Astrolith.

I went 3 out of 3 major victories and took first place by 160 kill points. The event only had 14 players vs the normal 20 that I am use to. This makes it hard to truly gage the effectiveness of this list vs my Dracthion Tail/Shadowstrike Starhost.

Several things stood out to me.
  • This list had way more damage and longevity.
  • This list has way less board control.
  • Low drops is tremendously valuable. Really wish my new list wasn't 8 drops.
  • Having greater threat saturation makes my opponents decisions making easier for them.
    • The DT/SS list doesn't leave much room for the opponent to interact with threats before they accomplish their intended purposes.
  • Deployment is much easier with this list.
    • Premeasure EotGs and enemy charge potential/shooting and you are pretty much on auto pilot.
  • I will be playing this list more!

Good to know. I had a discussion with someone about which list to run for the most competitive event in my region. He also advises me this list like you did already.
Although it seems like a boring list, I think it can give you the option to great a bit the army you need there right now, if you have enough models with you to summon. In your experience how reliable is the summoning from the EoG?

After a few games and a lot of internet roaming, I came to the conclusion that you never have enough EotGs and Razordons.
EotG is so strong and despite weird mechanics is very easy to play.
