Perhaps they're flimsier than proper spears and break when thrust into an enemy because they weren't designed to be used as thrusting melee weapons.

Maybe GW will fix this if Seraphon get an updated Battletome.

that and the quality of what is coming out varies vastly. it would be terrible to wait 5 years just for the book to come out and be a bad book.
 
Former medieval re-enactor here, thought I'd throw in my 2c on the javelin thing: javelins are smaller and much lighter than a full-size thrusting spear - using one as a melee weapon is doable, but you will have nowhere near the amount of reach and stopping power as the real deal, and landing a wounding blow on an armoured opponent will be very difficult.

fair but a 6 to hit? i've been looking and i haven't found anything else that is that bad give me a few hours but skinks might have the only 6+ to hit in the game
 
skinks are the worst and apparently it is easier to kill some one with a pairing knife, a sextant, a pair of tongs, and a telescope then it is to kill them with a javelin in melee. food for thought
 
Skinks and their combat is interesting, if you get enough they can deal meh damage. Their purpose is similar to ancient javelin throwers, to soften up and make a kill or two, possibly pulling the enemy out of position. An enemy with exposed flanks is indeed a very easy target as their pile in limits their response.

With saurus knights so cheap we can effectively use them and Ripperdactyls to kill off units, and a pulled out unit is an easy target
 
i found one, chaos familiars from the no longer suported chaos warriors have a 6 to hit. out side of that there is 1 monster that gets 6+ to hit on 1 attack at it's lowest profile being tamurkhan the maggot lord, 3 monsters that get a 6+ to wound at there lowest profile being royal/normal warsphinx, orghotts deamonspew and the basilisk and brimstone horrors get a 6 to wound. so ya out of the things that are still around it's the left overs of the left overs of a zeentch unit.

ok inishal thoughts all non mage heros can spend a command point to give all units wholy within 12 +1 attack for ither the shooting phase or the combat phaze(and the catapult is good) and katakros dinies you command points on a 4+....this is going to hurt

Really the ultimate value of skinks is not in their kills, it’s their tactical value at so low a price.their kills don’t matter as we have carnosaurs, Ripperdactyls, knights and razordons to do the killing
 
As for javalins being terrible in melee. They frequently are designed on purpose to be super flimsy and either break or bend on impact so an opponent can't just throw them back. Fighting with a weapon that basicly falls apart the moment you hit something has got to be a pain. At least that sextant won't immeadiatly break the moment you hit someone with it so you can probably pummel someone to death with it. It's a fairly heavy instrument and blunt trauma hurts (sextant might no longer be a good sextant afterwards though :P)

yup, most of what's been shown seems to be stupidly powerfull.
 
ok further thought on bone reapers. CRAP THESE THINGS ARE UNKILLABLE! sorry Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl fyre slayers have competition there mane battle line can have a 3+ rerolling save without hero support . if that wasn't bad enoph the big bone guy has a 4+ chance to bring back a model every time a model (friend or foe) dies within 3 of him. that means if he is within 3 inches half the time the model you just killed is fine! and they have more healing, they have durability that rivals almost anyone and the model return of death armies i don't even want to know what their aliegence abilities are. they had better cost a heck of a lot if not i don't know how any one is going to fight them

Nice! Also I notice now, all the slaves to darkness godsworn warbands have sold out as well.

No one bought it before, but because the new battle tome and possibility for list cheesing, its been sold up.

I want to know why wrath and rapture hung around for so long. Was it just no one wanted to buy it?

Yes I was very disappointed when Slanneesh received no mortal followers. They only needed to make a couple of units and it would have been a lot better. I was thinking about painting the everchosen models pink. But, its not the same. In the end I went with Khorne because the Blood warriors and reivers look fantastic. Its more crazy when you mix mortals with daemons. Its weirder and more chaos.
