Blog NIGHTBRINGER's Terrain & Warhammer Woodworking Projects

Wow! That's going to be so cool! How long does it take you to get that much done?
Thanks. I'm not quite sure how much time it took; I usually fall into a zone and lose all concept of time. This was definitely a slower process though, because it is so small and I have to cut with extreme care using my finest saw blade.

Can you cut more than one sheet at once, like stacked together?

Stack cutting is possible. It's ultimate success relies on...
  • the quality of the scroll saw machine (mine is pretty entry level)
  • the thickness of each sheet (thin sheets work better)
  • the density of the wood (hard wood is more difficult for the machine to cut)
  • blade type (thin blades are more prone to deviation)
I have successfully used the technique in the past, when the conditions were right. Sometimes the sheets on the bottom tend suffer a bit from blade deviation. I've achieved good results using 2 thin sheets cut simultaneously.

For best results on my machine I try to keep the total thickness of the wood to about 1/4" for hardwood and about 3/4" for softwood. I've cut significantly thicker pieces in the past, but it's never as fun of a process.

hmm... align it so the teeth are very close to the boards edge.

*Never mind you already finished it.

I finally have an update. I decided to cut the most intensive piece before working on the "backing plate". This piece took a huge amount of time to complete. The Death Mask will be placed in the center of this circle (on top of the backing plate once I finish it). The piece consists of 55 inside cuts (which are cuts that require a threading hole).

With the completion of this section and the Death Mask, the hardest components are complete! :)

Let me know what you think!

:)Thanks for all the great comments!:)

Amazing work, what are you going to do with the 6 outer squares on the ring?
I'd like to put some lizardmen glyphs on it. The space is very small, so I'm not sure if I will attempt to cut them from wood or greenstuff them.

Does your sawblade cut in any direction? Wondering if it is a flat blade.
The saw blades I used are flat and only have teeth on one side; consequently they can only be used to cut in the forward direction. I do own a couple spiral blades (which cut in all directions) but I never use them because they don't create as sharp or smooth cuts.

Looks like it could be made into a fancy Engine of the Gods..
Yea it probably could pass for an Engine of the Gods!! It was inspired by the Stargate in the Stargate movie/series.

I've been selling off some of my old 40k models including a metal Chaos Space Marine Daemon Prince and some metal Greater Daemons. I realized that I didn't have any bases for them. So voila, some custom wooden 60mm bases...

It may not be ideal, but I figured it was better than nothing! :)
