Painting New Years Resolution

I just have one question: do gifts count?

regardless i have 15 saurus to build about 20 to paint, a steg to paint and repair, 2 priests, one salamander and about 40 skinks to polish off

i am planning a large push I promised my self to finish at least 1250 points worth before i would start my second army
 
I've got 60 skinks to finish by the end of january....
Seems more like a reason to buy more, than not :P
 
Yeah I reckon gifts should count. They are still miniaturs you get this year.

I'm about to order 3-4 Scibor dwarfs on warbears, bringing my purchases for the year up to 7 model. 5 of them on large mounts... I think I will pledge to paint at least 10 models before buying more after that.

Looking over my army I have a lot more then I thought:
A Slann
16 temple guard
And 6 chameleon skinks,

Ther is a lot of painting this pledge. Is going to the pressure on me that I need, for this month I pledge to get the salamander and at least 10 saurus
 
I'm thinking at the end of every month, or maybe every 2 months to make it fair, tally up what you have bought vs what you have painted. If the bought column is higher, force yourself to buy no more until the painting column gets ahead no matter what. That is what I am going to try to do. I think I will aim to stop at every 2 months.

I am beginning a Chaos army and that will be my major project for the year. Probably have 10-20 models to assemble and paint in the next month or so, and I will try to get them and/or some old models complete before buying more after this first wave.
 
i just bought a LOTR army so i will have to paint that over the next 2 months
The Army includes:
Mines of Moria Starter set
24 wood elves

so i will get those painted up over the next 2 months as well as 10 dark elf spears.
 
How is everyone going? I think I have bought/ordered at least 6 months worth of models already, and barely started my new chaos army. Crap. :P

Chaos Sorc Lord (half painted)
Chaos Lord on Daemonic Steed (Assembled)
Chaos Lord on foot (basecoated)
BSB Conversion (still in bits)
10 Maurader Horsemen (5 assembled)
New VC Zombie Dragon (in post, no idea why I actually bought it!)
12 Chaos Warriors (in post)
###### (Keeping this last purchase secret for now. Lets say it will be a very big, long, difficult and ambitious project that could take 4-6 months on its own, and will definitely get its own thread!)


So 28 models bought, only two with paint on them. Time to push hard painting and try to resist buying anymore until these are done. First thing I really need to do is learn/create a technique to paint black armour nicely. And polar bear fur, but I have a technique for that.
 
desperately trying to hold off buying some orc warlords / squigs until I get through these skinks. Struggling. Come on you buggers! Can't you paint yourself?!

going well so far - painted 12 Genestealers (with another 12 near completion) and bought only 8 minis (list below) so far. Started work on my Mawloc on the weekend though, so if i get another spending urge i'll need to finish off those other 12 Genestealers first :)

3 Draconid Hunters (from the War Party, possible Krox alternates)
1 Draconid Heavy Warrior (another possible Krox alt)
1 Draconid Shaman (what can I say, I love the look of this guy)

got another 8 done on the weekend, that makes 20 Genestealers this month so far. another 4 to go and i'll have painted all of them, will post a pic of the unit (hopefully tonight or tomorrow).
 
Finished 12 skinks! ... but I'm about to buy ~30 orcs...

I'm still ahead at the moment though! ;)

I'm slipping further behind. AoW just released some very nice looking chaos warrior alternatives and I had to buy a box. Thats an extra 20 models ordered this year, though they won't reach me until early march probably.

I've now started painting my daemonic steed bear. Really waiting on the yellow ink I ordered, sohuld be able to finish it by next week.


Maybe we should post a quick rough photo of progress at the end of each month? Even if it is just a pile of unopened boxes, or grey assembled models, or various stages of WiP, or for some people finished units. :)

after a good start to the year I've fallen off the rails a little. the Tyranid Battleforce was on sale at MWG so i ordered one of those last night. oh dear, -43 on day 2 of the month :) Though, in order to keep up with the local GW's army painter challenge, I'm planning to paint 31 Termagants which should get me closer to at least +1.

Tyranid Battleforce arrived yesterday, more than 2 weeks earlier than I expected it to! At least i can start to erase some of that deficit though, currently -38 YTD.

with the Tervigon released next week i'd better hurry up and get some of those Termagaunts painted! nearly finished 8 so far.... ugh they're so small and time consuming!
