Blog Pinkies Paint log: Terrain for the terrain competition added

It's been going slow lately. Internship have sucked out the energy for painting.

BUT! I have been painting, and I've ordered models... Ohh I have ordered units. I have 40 mantic zombies incoming and almost 40 grave guards already assembled from ebay. Oh and a necrarch vampire (going to be necromancer) on foot from ebay as well.

I just learned today that writing with a pensel is... quite hard haha. So RIP is my first writing and hopefully there's be more to come. I need to make banners eventually O.O

And by good, i mean evil.

I would suggest, however, that I feel the characters are a little boring as they're all greens and a bit bland. From memory, Vampires are undead royalty aren't they? I'd have thought there'd be lots of adornments and fanciness on the horses specifically?
They look like bretonnian horses, so perhaps they could have house colours? I'm not sure, just throwing ideas out :)

Fine models but I would suggest adding some color to the cavalry. They are the elites not the cannon fodder and could do with some trapping of nobility.

Also these are the 6th edition models from the VC range. Back then they also used Empire knight horses for their armoured horses. At least now they're more distinct.

I actually agree with your assesment of the blandness of my characters. Mostley I think it's my female vamp who needs some stuff done. She's boring to look at and I know it. I just haven't figured out what to do.
 
Got some new stuff the last couple of days. Painted 5 zombies and I'm fairly happy with the result. Haven't painted the grave guards, so the colors aren't mine. I'll have to paint them all eventually.

Also, it's looking promising, however those zombies are in DIRE need of their clothes to be dirtied up. Heavy brown wash at the very least :)
 
Okay so it's actually not quite done yet, but I'm going to upload it anyway. I've been painting up 40 mantic games zombies because I wanted them to be done for the weekend (got some friends coming over for a 2v2).

I'll upload the zombros when they're done. Oh and I bought 10 fenrisian wolves (40 wolve marines unit). They are quite expensive, but look sooo much better.

I quite like that parched earth look to the bases (the models on them look great too!) - what kind of paint is that and does it come in other colours?

I start giving my base a dark brown prime followed by this white stuff that I coat the base with a spatula. Once it dies it'll crack, however since it's white I paint it with a lighter brown. You can paint it with whatever color you want - for instance gray if you want a more regular stone look.

I can take a picture of the white thingy later, but I'm not sure what the English name for it is. You can probably get it from a normal hobby store (I'm not thinking of a miniature one, but where you can buy pensels, paper and other random stuff).
 
Greenstuff on skink shields. Used the rear end of a pencel to make the dents. :p
 
Great looking skirmisher unit Pinktaco! :):) Love the pink scales, it works really well with the skin tone you have used.
 
Startet painting saurus warriors. Need to paint something different so I don't die painting only skinks. I've done a decent job so far, but I've ordered a bunch of stuff to convert them and I won't have them before next week or so.. So don't except an update the next couple of days. :)
 
8 saurus warriors done, but it would appear my shields have been delayed. Gah!
Oh well, I'll just continue to slowly paint up my saurus.
 
Yeah well, 10 saurus warriors done. Unless I'm getting some of the stuff I ordered tomorrow I'll continue on with Tetto'Eko to change things up. Once he's done I'll likely do 10 more saurus or 10 skinks :p
