This question comes up time after time on the forum. Time to settle it once and for all... with a poll! :)

Which of the three Star Wars trilogies do you feel is the best of the bunch?

For me, it's the Original Trilogy... obviously!

A strong start for the OT!

...okay, it's only 3 votes... (two of which are from my household!) :p

Lol. We are not saying biased, but we are all thinking it :p
I am not that much invested in Star Wars to immediately now the films and which are better. So this means I'll have to watch them once again and will come back when the results are in ;)

This topic will bring out more bias than anything else I can think of... short of politics or religion. :D

At least the poll will give everyone a numerically equal voice.

Just a prediction. Overwhelming majority vote original trilogy, a couple people vote prequels, no one votes for Disney trilogy because we do a job keeping most trolls out. Everything for Scolenex I suppose but even he would not troll on this subject.

I bet there is someone else too.
I agree. I also have a nagging (and sinking) feeling that even the ST will somehow garner a vote at some point. I hope not, but you never know.

But in any event, why put up a poll you know the answer to?
  • Quantitative data. I like numbers... numbers are ever so useful.
  • We'll have a more precise idea of what most of us already know.
  • Disney ST bashing :rage:
  • Star Wars! :woot:
  • Polls! :woot:

Inspired by a little PT vs. OT discussion that was instigated a week into my hiatus (a good time to do so by the way ;)).

True... we are powerful! ;)

As previously discussed, I am an OT fan.

However, I am also of the belief that is someone prefers the PT then fair enough.

I'm kind of a Voltaire-viewpoint kind of a guy. If your viewpoint doesn't hurt someone, then go ahead and say it. I'll respect it.

Right up to the point where someone then attacks my beliefs/viewpoints, at which point it becomes a different ball game.

Anyways, the other PT supporters should speak up. LO is by FAR the best forum for not allowing trolling and not suffering arseholes, so feel free to speak your piece.

Up to now I haven't had a specific opinion on the topic, but will try to form one in the upcoming week(s).

*starts Episode I*

In terms of the quality of the films, I’d say the Original Trilogy takes it (hence my vote), but when it comes to characters and setting I’d say the Prequel Trilogy is better (particularly when you factor in the non movie content set in it) - certainly if I had to pick an era to do a story in that would be my choice. The Sequel Trilogy was fun but the film quality was inconsistent and none of the characters hold any passion for me, so I’d put that last.

What about flat-earthers? They aren't harming anyone. (and no, I'm not implying that supporting the PT is equivalent to flat-earth theories, I'm purposely putting forth an extreme case).

Or can an "opinion" be invalidated by factual evidence?

Sure it can! But what are you acomplishing by disproving their "opinion".
As long as people don't act harmful or disrespectful towards others because of their different "opinion" it isn't a problem, I guess.

Depends on the context I suppose. There can be many reasons, although none of them pertain to which Star Wars movie a person likes. However, if we are talking about an instance were someone has deviated away from objective reality (i.e. Flat-earther example), I can see many potential goals and justifications for doing so. For instance, you need to crush a bad idea with a better one (supported by data, evidence, etc.) in order to prevent/limit its proliferation. Of course, we have digressed from the topic at hand.

If we bring it back to Star Wars...

If a person claims: "I like Rise of Skywalker the best of all the Star Wars movies", there is no disproving that. That is their subjective opinion and they have every right to it (and you would have every right to the opinion that they have a poor taste in movies... though out of politeness, that is better left unsaid :p). Assuming they aren't trolling, they are making a factually accurate statement.

On the other hand, if a person claims: "Rise of Skywalker is the best and most impactful Star Wars movie ever" (by which I don't mean individually impactful, but rather on a societal/film-industry level), that is just flat-out wrong. In my eyes that is fair game for debate or pushback.

The maelstrom of clashing and conflicting ideas form the nursery from which better ideas are born!

Fair enough. I shall choose my words wisely when stating my opinion ;)
So far Episode I isn't doing very much for me, but perhaps II and III can pull me aboard the PT-train.
