Blog Salamander Custom Mini - Xlanax_lot's Workshop

I'd love to try an airbrush, but would never buy one without having a go with it first. I heard they are a pain to keep clean.

I have a friend that does commission painting and he uses an airbrush and will swear by the results. It also is rather quick to use and get the desired results. He has been after me to get one for quite some time, but I just can't ever bring myself to purchase one.

He recommends:
Iwata Airbrush: Eclipse CS, Gravity Fed (Important), Dual Action, Internal Mix ~ roughly $125.

You'll also need though:
Air Compressor: Total air volume needed x 1/(Duty Cycle) = Compressor CFM requirement
- Duty Cycle - normally given as a percentage, means the compressor engine should only run for that percentage of every hour the compressor is in use. It's a good recommendation to follow as best you can to keep your compressor running for a long time to come.
Fine detail needle and nozzle ~ roughly $7-$10
Airbrush Thinner: Model Master Acryl (Universal Acrylic Thinner) ~ $7.49

I can't argue that the results look really cool. I will probably eventually break down and get one, but my babies will have to get a little bigger before I have time (or money) to do that.

Hope that helps!

Awesome those are really helpfull insights mate! Thanks

Thanks bud! cant wait to see them! Molding the steg parts in greenstuff to make bases is a total stroke of brilliance btw, im going to be doing that at some point! so clever!

Very nice your work is getting more impressive.

Love how you combine colours, you are very talented.

Have you thought about doing comission work?

Thanks guys I really apreciate the comments.

Hahaha its all about patience it gets on my nerves sometimes and I have to stop @Pinktaco

@Crowsfoot thabks man! I comntemplated the idea for a while. But i am a really really slow painter so I imagined that wouldnt work for most people so I whent against it. I mostly paint for fun and to finally see my compleate army painted :)

@n810 yehaa I found those to be the best places for magnets. They hold the pieces well and the best part is that you dont notice them

Great work Xlanax_lot! The way you make colours flow and blend is amazing. Your shading and highlighting is tremendous, it really gives the model pop. Those pieces look incredible.

Those are all stunning. Really first class work. All the colours flow perfectly. Your tetto eko is sublime. Well done.

Thanks a lot man!! I really apreciate all the nice comments it really provides me with good motivation @Herr Pete

Not at all man @Berserker Bob I used green stuff and the bits from the Stegadon's howda to make greenstuff molds, after that just put a thin layer of green stuff in your bases and than push the mold against the base with the greenstuff to shape it.

To make the molds do this:
1. Put some soap in the bit you want
2. In a bowl with water put the bit and than press the greenstuff into the bit, and than take the greenstuff out of the bit
3. Than let it dry and you have your mold
( if you are having problems getting the mold out of the bit to let it dry, try diping it in ice for a few seconds)

What releasing agent do you use when using your greenstuff mold to cast your models?

@NIGHTBRINGER I ussually put a little bit of soap on the mold and thats it. It has worked great for me, but if you are habing trouble, make sure you do this two thibgs:

1. Ensure that the green stuff is well attached to the base before u use the mold on it ( make sure there is no water or any liquid between the base and the green stuff)

2. Put a couple of drops of soap in the mold and start by releasing all the corners first ( diping it ina little watter with ice also helps in removing the mold)

Hope this helps! :)

I use evoo on my molds.

These are fantastic! Even by Lustria online's standard, you are one of the best. And I feel like the work at lustria is far better than average. I love that you really take your time with the bases. It adds a hell of a lot to your work and doesn't go unnoticed by anyone. And of course the level of detail puts these models over the top.

What ever happened to that skink casting the beast spell? I'll be wanting to see that one finished!
