Blog The Jade Host: Mayan Lizardmen

Thanks! The first coat of grey paint has been added, it is taking a while to paint it all but I had to start painting before I added the inner walls. It would have been to hard to fit my hands inside if I were to add walls, so I will measure and assemble them separately.

I have also made a few clay snakes to add to the base, since it does have the "Serpent Mouth" motif there will be plenty of serpents to lurk within its depths.

A few more pictures, did some work on the small burial mounds, adding some green. They are coming out pretty good, not much more to do but repaint the base itself and add jungle plants.

More painting continues on the large burial mound, but the detail is taking lots of time. Its a better picture than the last ones I posted though.

As a side project, I have been reading up a bit on Mordheim recently, and decided to make myself some warpstone tokens! They are just some cheap, cut up foam pieces that were leftover from the burial mound project, added to my leftover bases collection. Simple but effective.

Updates continue. I went back and covered up a lot of the dark grey, it looks more like stone now and less like highlighted lego bricks.

Green and brown has been added to the base and some of the sides, the side in this picture is nearing 90% finished. Once the outside is done then I have to concentrate on filling up the burial mound with graves and treasure!

Be warned: heresy has been spotted amongst the ruins by some keen-eyed skinks...

Awesome! I thought the first one was called shikakka tomb for a second

Some updates on the interior and the roof of the large burial mound.

Got the walls built, just got to finish adding the details:

Also got the roof-section started, held on with magnets so it can be taken off.

I have no words to describe how awesome this is!!

Luckily, I have numbers:

/10

:p:p:p:p:p

Seriously, great job

Sideways 8! :hilarious:

Thanks its been a fun project, not much more left to do! :D

A few terrain updates going along with the burial mound. I have just about finished the two sarcophagus I have been working on:

Inspiration for the artwork comes from Mayan stone carvings out of Yaxchilan

The interior of the sarcophagi are painted to be the long-lost remains of some skink priests, long since turned to bone. Pardon the rough painting, they were fun to make though.

I have also started re-doing some of my other terrain pieces, beginning with my jungle roads and plaza. They don't match the burial mound anymore, so i have added sand and plan to muddy them up a bit.

And here is a quick look at the terrain collection, minus the castle. After I paint up the roads/plaza I need to start adding jungle plants to everything.

Impressive!
I must admit that your terrain looks better on the brown sand, rather than on the green paint ;)

I agree completely. Still working on them, but they already look better.

The large burial mound is complete! Just need to take some better pictures with the treasure/sarcophagus tokens.

Great!
Actually what I had in mind when I suggested Burial Mound for the fun terrain challenge (remember the word "fun"? It was supposed to be a small, easy to build piece of terrain!!) was more like the small ones you did, but you went full crazy mode and built a pyramid with hand-painted sarcophagus, interior, and all the bells and whistles. Really awesome!

True he has surpassed what was required and mighty impressive it is.

This project was the most fun terrain project I have worked on so far, quickly spiralling into something way bigger than I had originally intended. The tiny pieces and details were the most fun, lots of stuff to explore.

I took some more pictures after some last-minute touch-ups. First of the several tokens I built along with this piece:

Sarcophagus: plural sarcophagi?

Warpstone Tokens:

Treasure Chests: (guarded by temple guard naturally)

And while I was at it I also touched up my Lizardmen battering-ram with a little extra grey and green paint so it isn't as bright grey.

I also took a few more exterior shots of the burial mound, along with some lizard soldiers for scale this time.

House of the Serpent Mouth: entrance (with glyphs spelling "Sotek is Good!")
