    An interesting side effect of wokeness in movies.

    A pattern has emerged that Disney has been hiring relatively inexperienced directors to head their big budget movies.

    Sometimes this is affirmative action to push forward someone who checks the right diversity boxes but they hired a few inexperienced straight white males. They also have rejected a few experienced directors who are not straight white males. Their main goal is to use relative nobodies.

    The main reason Disney is doing this is because they don't want the directors to put forth their own artistic vision on a project. They want directors who know how to follow orders and will implement all the bovine excrement they are ordered to implement.

    We've had this when the town I work for hired Administrators for the last few years. The older ones tended to do the right thing for the town even if it was political suicide as the had been hired to achieve certain goals. The new ones are either younger or are yes men/women and a lot of things against contract are tried to go through. Our last direct boss had fought for us on multiple issues and was able to get a lot of positive change for us. The new guy is a bureaucratic man who has to check with his superiors before he does anything, even things that he should be able to approve as it doesn't effect any other dept. Micromanagement is definitely on the rise.

    The show took a couple of seasons to hit its stride. Go back and watch season 1, it's probably not how you remember it.

    I remember the start was a bit slow, and just when my interest was starting to wane, I saw a crazy blue eyed zombie jump off a tree.

    Also season 1 had Sean Bean.

    But I guess I have been binge watching enough series that I grade seasons on a curb. Very few television series hit their stride fully on season one. In my opinion, it is an unrealistic standard to apply to a show.

    Except for Firefly which never got a season 2, I can't recall any of any of my favorite shows that season 1 was the best or otherwise set the par level. Maybe Archer hit the ground running. Maybe Scrubs. Maybe Malcolm in the Middle. These are shows I liked but I wouldn't call them my top favorites. I think it is easier to hit the ground running with comedies than with dramas, sci-fi, fantasy or action. Comedies rely around everything returning to the status quo at the end of an episode, but almost everything else has to slowly build.

    I agree, most of my favourite shows got better as the seasons progressed. ATLA, Samurai Jack, Star Trek TNG, etc. That said, Married with Children season 1 is a bit jarring. It's not even remotely as good as the show would eventually become.

    I would put Gargolyes into this category as well. Season 1 is extremely strong, especially the 5 part opener.

    Season 1 had a strong start, but season 2 was truly epic in my opinion. I imagine you were fond of Oberon.

    Season 3 went off the rails because Disney drove the original creator away.

    I agree. It was very well done and Xanatos is still one of my all time villains. I enjoyed the Pack in general. The thing with Married with children was by the last few seasons they got more and more off with their stories. I'll agree that season 1 wasn't the best but it wasn't as bad as when we had seven.
