Blog The Return of the Slann

Really damn great looking army! And congratulations with the Adepticon trophy :)

Is it possible you would share the holy secrets of how you did the orange saurus warriors?

@DeathFrisbee - Thanks! The bases have worked out great.

@Nirous - Thanks a lot! I was so stoked to win that trophy. There were some other great looking armies out there. I have another large batch of Saurus to do and I'll take some step by step photos to show how they are done.

For now, here is a WIP of my new ancient steg!

I've repainted him and changed him from an Engine to a regular ancient. Here is what he used to look like:

Thanks for looking!

Sure that's a stegadon and not a sexadon? Looks really great! I like the base alot too :)

Looking forward to the step-by-step with the Sauruses!

Thanks a lot. All these kind words keep me going!

Howdas take forever to paint!!! Here is an updated pic of the ancient:

Absolutely Gorgeous!

What colors did you use on the Howdah, if you don't mind me askin?

You're work is quite inspirational.

Cheers!

@Didymus - =D

@Rokanos - Thanks! I used Fortress Gray, washed with Delvin Mud and highlighted with Fortress Gray for the stone.

Wow... that's officially the best looking Stegadon I have seen!

Dang, that's a lot more simple than it looks. Fantastic outcome!

Btw, I'm stealing the idea of your slann. I like how elemental he looks like that (i also hate painting that palanquin :p)

Thanks to everyone! And don't worry, my Slann idea isn't exactly original either. Pixelsponge (on this forum) is a friend of mine and did something similar. I just added my little twist on it. That's the reason we share this stuff right? To inspire others and get inspired ourselves!

Speaking of Slanns...

I decided to put some more time into this guy. The pic is really dark and I'll try to get some updated pics of both the ancient with crew and this guy:

Very kool (Heavens ?) Slann. :smug:

Oh, great...now I want to repaint my Slaan! haha! o_O

That's one sweet looking Slann! I might have to try that with my second one.

Very cool Slann! Is that the TRIFORCE (from the Zelda video game series) painted on his forehead? Nice touch!

That's pretty frickin' sweet. I love the lightning around the body and the glowing eyes. Very dynamic, very cool!

Thanks everyone =). The tri-force was semi accidental. I was looking for something to mimic from the various lizardmen icons and found it on one of them. Working hard on building lots of new models, including a second steg!

Here are a few better pics:

Ancient! Now with crew!

Great looking Slann. As for the Stegadon, he simply is stunning!!!! What techniques did you use for the skin? Is it only some highlights or is there something more complicated??? What about the scales???

Thanks in advance for the information and great workonce again.

Thanks SeBM, here's the info:

The skin: Pretty much went from <black + ice blue + shadow grey> up to <ice blue + shadow grey + white>. Just start building up thin layers. I think I did 5-6 on that guy.

The scales: They are pretty much the same combo as the skin but less layers and more white.
