Archery is one of several Olympic sports that I think is ridiculous and loses the entire point of being a good archer.

Tae-Kwon-Do is another. I did this martial art as a kid. The Olympic version is just plain WEIRD. You can't use your arms?!?! What you are flipping talking about? It's a FLIPPING MARTIAL ART!!!!!

Perhaps not the _entire_ point, there are some things to learn from Olympic archers.

But I see the tendency, yeah. There is a joke among intuitive archers:
Go to a FITA event, and when nobody is looking, put the targets half a meter/yard closer to the line.
Stand back and watch them all miss. :D

Sure, they are pretty precise and really good in repeating the exact movements, which makes their reproducibility pretty great. Their releases are smooth and they stand perfectly ergonomically. Their bows and arrows are top notch, too. I am impressed by what they can achieve.

...still not what I call archery.

Painted a few eyes and Skink crests today.
@Lizards of Renown I took a few pics of my bows:

This is my strongest one, a traditional d-shaped longbow. Hunting bows or light war bows in the medieval period looked similar. The wood is not authentic though, hickory doesn't grow in Europe. But it is a fraction of the price of yew.
It has 50lbs of draw weight at 28" but I have long arms so I draw it to around 60lbs.

Here is a door for scale.
    20210811_185918.jpg

This is a standard off the shelf Buck Trail Blackhawk. Glass fiber, ebony and dymondwood laminate flat longbow. It is my first bow, 35lbs@26" but I draw it to 40lbs.
I have a very similar one (in fact it looks the same) only a bit weaker, at 25lbs. Nice for beginners or training without weight.
    20210811_190350.jpg

The last one is a ~50 years old recurve bow that I got ages ago. I let a professional test it and he determined that it is still good to shoot. Only needed a new string. 25lbs. I rarely shoot it but it is nice to have so I can show people how to shoot with a bow that isn't too strong.

Most of my arrows are homemade by my brother. He is quite talented.

I was notified recently that my local gaming group's next Necromunda campaign will be starting at 1500 credits, which necessitated at least two more gang members in my Van Saar gang on top of what I already painted earlier.

A Van Saar Augmek (champion) with Hyskrar-Pattern Energy Shield and Suppression Laser (think laser shotgun)

Van Saar Tek Specialist (ganger) with rad gun and sub las-carbine.

Bought and started reading Stargrave today. It's interesting. Mostly a sci-fi reskin of Frostgrave, but that isn't a bad thing.

Had a little extra time yesterday, so I put details onto some savage ork big 'uns that have been sitting on my notional paint table for too long.

Another revelation in getting more bodies for my Van Saar gang at gang creation led me to painting up two more teks and the 5 lasguns I currently have available (I will need to purchase another box to get more). Short of me being a silly goof and deciding that "Remove x, replace with lasgun" should apply across all of my gang members just to get another two teks (or another augmek), that's about as far as I'm going to adjust my gang for now.

Bought a couple things for an upcoming WHFB tournament. I picked up a box of savage orks, then built ten of them. The rest will probably become part of my AoS army. I also picked up two trolls (one reaper, one dnd) to give me a full set of 6.

I actually had another few minutes, so I primed the Reaper troll and the savage orks. I also started on a small terrain project. I wasn't sure what to do with the base that came with the troll, so I started turning it into a terrain piece.

For my Birthday today I received a box of the Oathmark Dwarf Heavy Infantry who I'm going to make into Khazad Guard, Iron Guard and perhaps some character and command models for my Middle Earth Dwarves. I've been comparing them on the sprues to my existing Middle Earth Dwarf models - slightly taller than the Dwarf Warriors (though this will be reduced slightly once I've cut off the moulded bases), but they look as though they'll be pretty much the same height as taller Dwarf models like Dwalin and Thorin, which is fine because, given Khazad Guard are the royal bodyguards and Iron Guard are reconnaissance veterans, they'd be the biggest, toughest Dwarves in the kingdoms. Very pleased with the box, 30 models means I'll be able to make a lot out of it.

    Happy (late) Birthday, Lord Agragax!

I am ... slowly... I mean, REALLY slowly... assembling my Troggoth Hag. Stupid resin parts don't like up well, so it is a lot of filing-and-fitting work with extra thick glue as a gap filler...
