AOS may not be that bad after all...

I wasn't aware there was even a minimum model count until I looked it up recently. I think the official minimum model count is like 60 percent of the recommended models. But like you said there's nothing stopping you from writing HALFLING SPEARMEN on an appropriately sized piece of cardboard and pushing it around.

People do that to test out new army lists here

Minimum model count is actually 50%+1 with only one exception that are Legions (60 models but MMC is 41 instead of 31)

As @Lord-Marcus said we test new armies with cardboard or empty mdf bases beofre commiting to purchase anything usually. Such a great game!

Or, in my case, MDF bases with texture. If I don't like the army, those bases go in my deals section of my store
 
Just for the record: I like AoS and will stick to it. I am just _ready_ to try something else, too. :)

It has potential and there's a lot of things about the lore that I like. I still miss the good old universe. I had been playing it since Middle School so its weird to think of it as gone for good.

The creator has a ton of fantastic death-looking units sprinkled throughout the blog, including four seperate little factions (troglodytes, plague docs, fey, dead court) all made from combined warhammer/Malifaux kits. I also really like the background they made behind their minis, it makes the pictures so thematic!

Plus they have made their own conversions of the skaven (into undead) and the dwarf faction (iron beard helmets!)
 
My initial impression was that those would be pretty epic Grave Guard or even Wight Kings. :D
