AoS Second Edition

Ratses got their faction focus today:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/26/26th-may-faction-focus-skavengw-homepage-post-3/

The return of the Dreaded Thirteenth Spell! Squeak Squeak!

It might look as though GW will actually bring all the Skaven factions back together as they gave them all the same faction focus.
meh, surprsingly little information for such a varied faction. Though at east the info about the screaming bell indicates how our EoTG will be fixed (though I still hope it'l get more than just "summoning works now" the thing needs some more focus to its abilities)

Those two endless spells shown look really cool.

Though I'm unclear how the dispelling will work exactly. Is it just going to be a case of beating the casting value? Cuz that seems too easy to be honest.

This doesn't exactly end Kroaknado though, it just means the balewind can now actually be dispelled but it says nothing else about the advantages that it gives. Plus, as long as you can just immeadiatly summon it back again I don't think Kroak would be all that bothered.

Also, is there any indication for ho we know if a wizard knows a given endless spell yet?
Well, don't they mention a complete overhaul to how the Balewind vortex works? I guess that's why we tend to think it will work differently...

yea but with 0 details. As long as it retains the effect of "massivly increases the range of your spells" kroaknado will still be more or less the same as it is now. The only thing mentioned so far that is a tad worrisome is the dispelling.

on that note; would you think dispelling would just be "cast the spell succesfully" and would you then be abl to unbind the dispell? Cuz that seems fun. In the case of Kroaknado you'd get Kroak siting on the balewind stopping the enemies from dispelling it which does seem pleasing.

I could see that. Also the spell they showed today, the Umbral Spellportal or something, could very well work in the same but different way for a kroak nado, if the point of casting becomes the second part of the spell!

Yeah I think that could be really neat.

I hope the Seraphon faction focus comes soon.

Btw have you seen the crystal wall on the photo? If that is a special spell we can cast that might help a lot against some good nelee armies.

But you can replicate them - a huge bravery value for LD and extra Attacks or something for a period of time for Frenzy.
That’s the spirit!

well frenzy and LD aren't things in AoS so yeah, it'l be lacking those for starters.
OK.
Leadership / Bravery
Tomato / Tomatoe

What I am saying is just have them function almost like those Goblin spinning ball and chain guys. They never run, they always attack, nearest foe, keep at it until they’re destroyed.

Bravery 13 and whatever the new name for “Frenzied and Always Charge the Enemy” is. (Whatever those wretched Khornate Bloodletters[?] do, that.)

Fanatics.

Beat me to it ;)

And to think I once fielded an army that had nine of the little beggars...

Nine.

I have six of them and they once wrecked one of my units of Saurus to death. I feel the pain of Fanatics. At least when they come near you - most of the time they zoom off the board or crash into terrain.

And yes it’s these guys who might well be getting an update soon...

Things that interest me in this image.

  1. There is a wizard atop the Balewind Vortex, so that assuages some of my fears that it was just going to be another mobile spell effect.
  2. Even more interesting, does it look to y'all like that Starpriest has cast some sort of magical barrier blocking the teethy thing's route to the Warriors?

This picture made me so happy, since I play Ironjawz as well lol. It does look like the star priest did set up that wall for sure! I just wonder if it counts as a wall for cover purposes and blocks movement. Or something waaaaaayy cooler lol.

Fyi: shooting out of combat got explained in the podcast. When in CC only shooting at the unit within 3inch. Which i like very much :)

Would much rather have had no shooting in combat at all except for small weapons like throwing weapons and pistols. It’s just so unrealistic to have an archer shoot an enemy full in the face at point-blank range - the enemy is just too close for you to do that.

EDIT: Unless that archer is Legolas, because, well, he’s OP :p

Were there previews last Sunday? It seems like it's getting kind of late in the day for one to pop up, so maybe they didn't schedule one (or two) for today.

It’s always late in the day that they post a Faction Focus, much too late for my liking and really annoying. I’d much rather see it appear during midday or something. What have they got to do that makes them put priority in posting Faction Foci so far down?

They did set it up like that. And it is on a modelbase. So i guess its an spell.

Did they mention anything about how special weapons like an ark of sotek on a bastiladon would work?

Issue with no-point blank shooting is that you also have stuff mounted on giant warbeasts (e.g. bastiladons), horse-mounted archers and stuff like kairic acolytes or the various fyreslayers with throwing-axes who just throw shortranged attacks a the nearest target. All of these should still be able to "shoot" in combat. Not to mention that these kind of units would suffer dearly from losing their ranged attack as it's a significant chunk of their damage profile. The amount of rebalancing that'd be required for units that happen to have a ranged attack but only rely on it for some extra firepower and not as their main weapon is probably too much for GW to bother.
