The recent story actually seems to give us a direction, the skink Maq’uat has taken action into his own hands and activated the spawning pool at the wrong time, so to say we have no direction isn’t quite true, as they even basically stated that the course is to go combat the source of the dying stars.

meh, until we get an explanation as to what's killing the stars and why it's barely a direction. Currently it's literally just "something's wrong, we should fix it". Which is neither particularly fleshed out nor all that riveting.

Yes, they're one of my favourite units. While I don't play AoS I'd be interested in seeing them get a new model, perhaps one similar to the Total War version.

I believe you are talking about seraphon's fluff, not lizardmen. ;)

While I really hope they don't ditch the Slann, it would be neat if the army rules were changed such that Skink Starseer's could act as an alternative to the Slann, with a lore justification about how the Slann are dying off (for real this time). So much of the army's unique function simply requires a Slann at this point, and it would be nice if the lore and rules made that more flexible.

Saurus can be very intelligent. It's just that said intelligence is often expressed as a combat-focused form of autism.

I like to think that Nakai was the super-prototype made before the Old Ones finally settled on kroxigors being just smart enough to understand verbal instruction, considering that you don't actually need to be any more intelligent than that to be able to lift and move heavy objects.

yup i really like Nakai i wish he had made it out of lustria but we live with what we have. and as a consolation prize we have a lot of really good fan stories hear about him.

I think people overestimate the stupidity of Kroxigors. They're certainly not the cleverest but the short story released with the Lizardmen in WH2 has a Skink with a Kroxigor buddy and he seems smart enough.

The death of the Slann would definitely be a shock, but don’t forget that for the highest of Slann, death isn’t the end, as is the case of lord Kroak, if the skinks ascend to leadership options, it would open more flexibility into our armies from a gameplay standpoint as well. The Slann dying off adds something our army didn’t quite have much of before, and that is a more inner struggle beyond the struggle against chaos and the great plan, if you look at it from the perspective of the Seraphon, these times are uncertain and they have taken drastic measures without knowledge of what to do next or what will happen, using the example of the recent story, Maq’uat is sad and afraid when he realizes his master won’t be waking up ever again, as it seems he is barely alive and dying in his sleep, instead of panicking however, Maq’uat knows that he is the next in the chain of command, and takes action for what he sees as the right thing to do for the sake of their future. I’m sure this can be interpreted to mirror our own situation somehow, but then we get back to how this relates to this thread, the new spawning.

With the new spawning, we learn a lot of interesting things that could foreshadow our army’s Future. We know that the new lizards are ‘born with hate’ and will be suffering side effects of essentially bursts of feral aggression as a result of being improperly spawned. If we get new units. I feel this will be the route taken. The summoning mechanic could be added to some sort of new unit representing the spawning pool activation, or changed some other way. From a story standpoint the very idea of this imperfect spawning is fascinating, as we don’t know how the newborn savages will react to such an unstable time for the race.

When the Lizardmen were cut off from the Slann in the Dragon Isles, they degenerated into a feral, devolved state, little more than animals. Having no Slann at all would probably just straight up destroy them as a race.

    Not how autism works...
They're described as so stupid and feral their weapons and tool need to be chained to their arms otherwise they'd just forget em cuz they don't really understand why they would carry around a big hunk of metal/wood/rock/whatever. Similarly they need constant instructions from their skinks to execute most tasks. They are quite stupid...

Basicly.. the entire society is build around Slann. Even if the slann aren't directly needed to give the Seraphon a higher sentience they're needed for nearly everything to keep society going. And basicly the entirety of seraphon society is little more than a tool for the Slann to do their job of progressing the great plan.

Although it'd be possible to have an faction spring up where various skinks and saurus slowly start taking over the slann's roles. And even then they're probably going to need some (un)dead slann to guide em. That'd be extremely difficult to pull of fluff-wise and would require a set-up similar to the entire set-up as for the necroquake, including short-stories and rival factions, to actually sell it to your audiences. As simply going "well the slann are all dead/dying now but the other seraphon have magically learned how to function without em" just doesn't work for an established faction. Not only would it just be lame and anti-climactic, it'd also make the lore meaningless if an entire race can change that drasticly overnight. Plus, even then I don't think they can outright do away with slann. The most they really can get away with is several slann like Kroak leading the seraphon or functioning as an ancestor cult.

Also, the seraphon are a race who spend an inordinate amount of time creating prophecies & long-term plans. If there's any race that requires a long-winded setup for any drastic overhaul it's us. It'd be a massive miss-use of our fluff not to give us hints & prophecies everywhere in the lead-up to something like that.

In all honesty I am glad that the stupidity rules from fantasy got dropped and the overall focus on the faction shifted away from “big dumb lizards”. The notion that non mammals are dumb is an old scientific idea that has been repeatedly disproven. While saurus may not appear to be smart and talkative like humans, they in truth are intelligent, in a different way that focuses more on better instincts and combat that social ability

IN the meantime, Ossiarch Bonereapers have been revealed.
IDK, they're nice (especially the Necropolis Stalkers and the Mortek Crawler), but for now I'm not sold on them. Plus, what do we see? 3 units, 2 heroes and a warmachine? that would be one of the poorest range of miniatures...

in the video you can see another hero, but if the band feels a little poor, I suspect that from here to October they will show something else

PS: And the memes about General Kenobi with the stalkers xDD

I do assume there's more. Though it's massivly dissapointing they're so different from the rest of the undeath range both aestheticlly & fluff wise (they're not puppets for a change), yet somehow still a part of Nagash's legions... it would've been an excellent faction to oppose Nagash with all these differences..

There will most likely be some more new units.
At least GW said that we haven't seen all of them yet.
