20190818_130044.jpg Trying to paint a little faster. Scales are done. Tabletop standard! Next step is to seal, mask off and airbrush initial colors on shell. Color schemed inspired from Total War.

First time using GW Contrast, of course I didn't use as one thick coat. I mixed in some medium and did some glazing with Gorguntas Fur. It worked pretty well.

Really like how organic and natural these look, yet they still 'pop' very well. The transition on the snout and the pattern on the head crest is also a nice touch.

Updates on Bastis. Its slow going. Im terrible at painting horns and it was really frustrating. Overall its coming together and I can soon move to the crew and gems. 20190828_201839.jpg 20190828_201806.jpg 20190828_202006.jpg

These Bastiladons look terrific @Joshua Horchler! If you don't mind sharing, what colors did you use for the body and the shell?

Thank you! I still have a little work to do to finish them but they are close.

The body was super easy and went fast:

-Zandri Dust > Karak Stone > Game Color Khaki on underbelly (any off white would work)
-Then I just did a series of reikland fleshade washes and slowly mixed in some agrax focusing the darker washes towards the shell and shadows
-I used thinned down Gore-Gurntas Fur for the "stripes" and darkest areas
-Then drybrush some Zandri Dust and karak stone back on the raised edges

    Shell:
-Mephiston red with a little brown, then slowly dry brushing in brighter gw reds and oranges mixed together. I always keep a little brown in the mix. Then just a series of Carroburg crimison and brown washes, focusing dark washes on the top and edges.

Not happy with the horns and spikes but those pictures are pretty close. From a distance it's okay. I didnt have the time to dedicate a million layers to make it look great. I need to find a better way to paint horns!

Brillaint work, great execution on the red carapace as well as the scales. I also really like the subtle purples around the eyes and mouth, adds some interest and colour to those regions. Also ths horns look better than what you make out, keep up the good work

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I think i've been staring at the horns too much and I wasn't happy with the transitions. Cant wait to carve out some time this holiday weekend to finish them and get to work on the crew and gems.

Looking for some advice. How do you take good pictures of lighter/white colored models? I'm working on some Ogors right now and Im painting them to have some greyish/white pale skin. I have all these great hints of purple and magenta mixed into the shadows but when I turn on my camera it just washes them out.

Any advice on how to capture good pictures of lighter painted figures?

A white background and relatively bright lights definitely help IMO.

I tried some new things and really wanted some warm tones in the skin to make it look alive and all my pictures arent doing it justice. I'll have to creat a white backgroud. In person you can really see all the magenta tones I worked into the shadows and folds of skin.
