It's the story from the forbidden power book, which is the little book that came with the endless spell bridge & boat, as well as Sigmar's magical engine thing.

Fair enough, though I think this particular example takes it a bit far. This isn't just an example of a mercenary being a bit less noble and choosing to fight for the "bad" guys, it's a mercenary switching sides mid-battle, and inexplicably going way further then even the bad guy asked for, simply by being bribed. Mercenaries that do that tend to not live very long. Plus, you'd think the other fyreslayers would immeadiatly wipe them out as it completly ruins their good name and a mercenary who no-one trusts won't get any work. So they'd be a massive liability for them as well.

    Here's hoping brother!

So I'm pretty sure the general consensus is a Sons of Behemat reveal @ Adepticon? My bigger question is, do you think that is all that will be previewed/revealed for AoS? or is GW hiding something in the ever-shrouded place that is Nottingham?! :p

Joking aside, I really do hope they unveil/tease something else for AoS as I feel the rest of the year is completely open for new releases/campaigns and the recent Wrath of the Everchosen book pushed the overall story forward by only a little bit. (I say this on the fact that only Chaos & OSB were involved.)

so I looked up the story. the Fyreslayers didn't betray Lethis. they had NO AGREEMENT with them. the gold they got stiffed on was from a previous arrangement for which punishment had already been meted out. they just answered the call for help. lady olyander then entered into a paying deal with the Fyreslayers and they took the gold and fought against the city, only to have the Flesh eater courts come to the defense of the city because of some ancient stirrings of noble memory having defended the city prior. (or just hating nagash, it isn't clear). the Fyreslayers and Olyander win the fight and then the Fyreslayers leave.

yeah, no that's not what happened. I assume you've found an (incomplete) summary then.

    What happens is as follows:
    - Fyreslayers have previously fought for the city. Payments have been delayed due to Nagash attacking the caravans. Also the fyreslayers continuously raise their prises resulting in tension between the two factions. However, no oaths have actually been broken & they're trying to deal with the missing caravans together.
    - At the start of the battle the fyreslayers are encamped a little outside the city
    - Nighthaunt attack, from the lakeside. Pushing back the defenders
    - The fyreslayers arrive before the defenders line break. Why did they enter the city? cuz they saw the incoming spectral army and decided they themselves would be safer inside the walls. They weren't asked to defend the city, the fled into it to save their own hide.
    - Nighthaunt are pushed back & the defenders organise themselves.
    - Fyreslayers proceed to continue to be greedy bastards and demand yet more ur-gold or they won't help. Ignoring the fact that they fled into the city to save their own safety. City promises to pay them once this is all over so they actually cooperate and don't get everyone, including the fyreslayers themselves, killed.
    - The fighting resumes.
    - Servant of Nagash shows up, tells the fyreslayer he'l pay them double. All they need to do is step out of the way and let the nighthaunt pass through the gate they are defending.
    - Fyreslayers accept the bribe without a second thought, and then proceed to slaughter the other defenders despite this not being asked for.
    - The fyreslayers open the gates, and use their magmadroths to destroy some crucial (magical anti-undeath) fortifications, as well as kill scores of defenders. In doing so they are crucial to the nighthaunt succes as those magical defenses were proving to be rather effective.
    - The fyrslayers are decimated by reinforcing KO & SCE, a few 100 (out of 1000's) escape all shamed and forced to become doomseekers cuz of this whole ordeal, it is unclear if the betrayal or the defeat is what shames them though.
    - The fighting continues, the flesheaters arrive at some point and there's some back and forth. Ultimatly resulting in the vault being openend, though the nighthaunt forces are driven off and the city survives.

I cannot view this as anything but a betrayal. Especially as they only entered the city to save their own skin to begin with. And then proceeded to (quite literally) stab their current allies in the back.

Lets not bash on someones other faction. Especially not only based on a single story only accounting for some of the fyreslayers. Even tho a few might have been corrupted, you cant really say the whole faction is. Lets keep it friendly

Sorry, not my intend. If you like em, more power to you.
I just really dislike this story, and dislike the fyreslayers as a consequence especially as they're not presented as "corrupted" or as an exception to the faction. There's also some stories where it's explicitly stated a particular lodge went mad for gold, and thus became corrupted. Those I like far more.

Anyway, are there no new rumours to discuss yet?

im not offended in the least lol. feel free to bash a faction you don't like, just be prepared to defend the position (which you have done so.... *shrug*)
I just want you to understand that this single story is a serious outlier from their norm.
yes they can go mad... the ur-gold madness is a thing, and when discovered they are put down by other fyreslayers. betrayal, actual legitimate betrayal... that's essentially unheard of.

seeing as this story was meant to be the introduction of both Fyreslayers and FEC as mercenary units, I cant help but think they purposely did this to show that anyone could take them and create a scene that makes their rules set make sense.

Meh, issue here is that there was no mention of the madness. If they had added that in or at least hinted at the forgefather slowly fallign to it, or had another fyreslayer speak up. Or something, I wouldn't have had such an issue with.

Also, it is unfortunatly one of the few stories that actually appeared outside their own tome, so bad publicity :p
Probably, but the trope of mercenaries willing to switch the moment someone offers more money is stupid. Noone's going to hire you if it's that easy to make you switch sides.

So not exactly related to AoS, but GW has been posting photos on FB and the like of converted Banshees and Incubii.... Not conversions to those units, but conversions using those models.

They look nice, and fit a lot of the bits that those ranges are known for.
Only hiccup seems to be people not being too happy about the rumored price of the kit.

I'm expecting these to be @ US$60, which I believe is now typical (sadly) for a 5-mini elite squad such as the new chaos terminators. Are you saying these going to be more than that?!

Hate the most recent pricing bump and how every new kit released, be it 5-mini elites or 10-mini norms, is $60 off the bat. I will commend GW though for packaging 20 minis instead of 10 in the Mortek Guard box. But I suppose since the army relies so heavily on this unit, there would've been quite the outrage if they had been boxed with just 10 for the same price.

Its rumored to be around 60 USD, but I think it's more about the fact that it's 5 spindly, Guardsman stats models sold as heavier infantry models.
And you'll usually want units of 10, as their rules aren't changing.

    So. There's that.
