I had some time today even after work, so I made some significant progress. In case anyone is interested, here are my dual drybrush colors for preparation of minis (and also minis after it)
    IMG_20220830_074012.jpg

Current state is that I need to paint eyes and base rims on all minis. I also need to paint metalic parts on two orks on right.
    IMG_20220830_182414.jpg

I also need to make better photos :D

Edit: and drill barells. Drill them hard! :D

Allrighty, first five "mumberz" done. I just need to drill barells, but I'll do it together with naming on bases when I have whole roster finished.

Edit: pictures are somehow corrupted, I'll upload them later again.

Allright. I picked up second set of boyz yesterday, so I can continue. All models are assembled and I spent last hour drilling barells.
As one gretchin is spare, I have 9 models finished and 8 more to go, so I am officially entering second half of work :D

It was busy weekend, but I managed to at least prime 4 more ork models.

Also I decided to paint one shoota purple (as kvajet killa) and leader (to differentiate and hide him).
Since that purple (even 50:50 with pink) is too dark, I need to highlight it.
I think this is first time I am layering muscles. I like result, even I have no idea what I am doing :D

Wow. These are fantastic paint jobs. Like, really. Of a standard that I'd see in a White Dwarf.

Are you self taught or did you youtube video? In which case, which ones? I'm always looking for how to improve my skills.

This seriously isn't white dwarf stuff, but thanks a lot for compliment. And as for process, this is basically what I described on last two pages of blog:
Black vallejo primer, heavy drybrush of vallejo grey, light drybrush of vallejo pale sand. I am using make up brush.

I have been using this preshading method since I started watching Dana Howl's glazing videos. I actually bought glazing medium and tried it couple of times in past.

After that I just slap speedpaints on all surfaces I want matt (skin, clothes), correct mistakes by pale sand and apply speedpaint again. All surfaces I want to be metallic, I brush with vallejo platemail and apply speedpaint. On these last four, I added scratches of the same vallejo platemail.

As for improving, I basically painted around 120 soviets for Bolt action game, all with contrasts, so I gained some feeling of how those paints work and flow. Speedpaints are the same, but better (less splotches of pooled paint).

As for this specific side project, I recently saw Miniature Hobbyist's video where he uses method called "slap-chop", which is basically what Dana is doing and he uses contrasts on top. I wanted some distraction from lizards and as I have 5 kill teams still on sprue, I chose orks as he was painting them in (at that time) most recent video.

Juan Hidalgo (@Itepixcauh) has anew YouTube video with a non-varnishing method of avoiding Speedpaint reactivation that could be useful to you :)

Thanks for idea. I found out that speedpaint medium does the same thing (and again for half the price) :)

It took me a while to figure it out tho, if you posted this two weeks ago, I would have rushed to workshop (shelf with paints in dead space of appartment) to try it out :)

As I´ll be working from home tomorrow, I won´t be able to do pretty much any painting on Orks, so here is progress of last batch.

Just a quick update... I had some leftover money and serious itching to buy something, so I finally took a leap of faith and bought (possibly last in Europe) Celestial Stampede box. I think that next month when I have this itching again, I should spend it on babysitter, so I can get something actually done :D

I finally finished painting last four Ork models. Now I only have to get back to first five and add some scratches and nails to finish it as whole. Then varnish, tufts and some wacky names on base lips.

After more than a week, I am able to paint at home. Kiddo is asleep, better half with him, I prepared my table almost as shri e to hobby, model is ready and brushes are moderately useable. What more to wish for. :D

    I have one hour.

I love and cherish those moments :) because they get fewer and fewer

Good progress! I love the sandstone-ish throne and arch.

Looking forward to the end result.

I hope for the opposite. :D
My hope is that kiddo grows to be able to play by himself for a while.

Thanks, I first used it on Carnosaur base and liked result. Then I saw it on Gauntlet's Kroak and loved it. Not to mention that sand colors (both contrast and speedpaint) flow better than grey ones on large surfaces, so it was no brainer. :)

Thanks! As for the camo cloak, it flows nicely. Most of pooling could have been prevented if I wasn't in rush. :)
