Blog Canas' armies

In terms of the actual game, what's the difference between tech priests and tech marines? Or the iron priest variant that the space wolves have? As far as I could find online they basicly serve the same purpose of repairing vehicles and the like, do they have (dis)-advantage compared to a normal tech priest? Besides not benefiting from things like canticles.

they basically have the same role. Fluff-wise, the tech-marines are trained by the AdMech so they can keep in good condition the precious vehicles that Mars gives to the SM.
The Iron Hands chapter, being so fixed with tech bioengineering and limb replacement with mechanical parts, got a strict tie with AdMech (so fluff-wise that would be the best choise).

A techpriest ensigneer, and a larger piece of terrain with water coming out of a damaged portal realmgate thing The terrain is considerably less shiny, but my phone's camera apparently catches all the light.

Looking Good. The Necro and new Tech Priest look like nice and tidy!

Looking good. The staff turned out nice.

Dark green was a good choice for the colored armor plates. It is still very Necro without being the same as all the other armies i see. Adding a bit of yellow glaze could help to make some of the highlights pop more.

If you blackline the recesses for their tails it would help to define the individual plates of metal.

Picking up the highlights with my camera is quite difficult without just zooming in so much you start seeing individual brushstrokes and more importantly every single mistake I made. The highlights are more pronounced in reality. But I'l try a yellow glaze if I ever make another batch of necrons. Used a green one this time but that might have been too close to the armour plates green to really pop out.

Same for their tailplates. The nuln oil is enough for the most part, but my camera just doesn't really pick it up. Though I like how the lines on the recesses in the armour plates make the armour pop out more so I'l try that as well.

These aren't too bad, the bit of plastic they lean on is quite thick. But you should look at the spirit torment, he just connects with 1 thin sliver of plastic to the base.

Some banshee's, they look a bit better than the other nighthaunt I think. Though I still have no clue how to paint the newer models.

Just a tad heavy with the Shade.

Remember less is more with shades and glazes, GW shades don't look like they do much when wet but once dry they can have a dramatic effect on your models, you can always add another coat if it's not dark enough.

What do you mean you don't have a clue? scheme choice?

Take is slow with the shade. It is better to apply too little and then have to apply an additional coat than to frost the mini.

The reason it's so much is cuz the base is the technical nighthaunt blue paint. I've not quite figured out how you're supposed to paint with that one yet and it ends up either barely noticeable or one layer immeadiatly turns the entire thing blue (or green if I use the other one).

And I can't really figure out how to paint the various ghosts. I painted some spectral hosts earlier where I basicly just some shade at it which worked well due to how many ridges there are on those models making for some natural highlights and stuff even with the models basicly only being 1 or two colours. However, the newer nighthaunt models don't have as many ridges. In fact they're mostly just flat monochrome Surfaces, with very few other objects (trinkets, helmets etc.) to highlight or contrast the larger monochrome Surfaces of their cloaks. So so far those newer models mostly end up looking like 1 big blue (or purple, or black, or white) blob. The banshees are some of the better ones simply cuz they come on a fancier base so there's some stuff below em for contrast, plus they have at least some ridges and such in their cloaks and skirts and whatnot.

Don't tell my buddy but that's how I feel about those new technical colors on his Nighthaunt models as well.
Sure they are easy to use but... I don't actually like how they look that much.

IMO they would profit from a bright drybrush to give them more structure and contrast.
