8th Ed. Custom artillery dice tryouts?

While the Chaos Bunny remains one of your finest comics ever. I think I prefer the spikes and flames over the numerals.

While I appreciate the joy Bob and Joe give to me with their fine humor, I prefer the original more flame like flames without hints of Bob and Joe.

The d3/Scatter dice look great. If they are going to stand as d3 dice, they are perfect as they are. If they are supposed to serve as d3 dice AND scatter dice, the number 2 side could use a clearer direction. "One" you follow the tongue and "three" you follow the points. Number two seems to indicate two directions.

I just realized you can say "follow the eyes to find the direction." They are pretty obviously arrows. That pretty much voids what I said.

Also one of the numbers needs to be altered to specific a "Hit" if they are going to fill in for scatter dice. Maybe my mind's eye is off but I think the three looks closest to a Bull eye, but any number can be altered to be a hit. Alternatively we could keep the numbers exactly as they are and put five sides in one color, and the sixth side another. The oddball color is the HIT. I'd recommend red for scatter and green for the hit. But I also wouldn't mind purple and gold (or any two colors really).

EDIT: We might want to delay the ordering of the artillery dice till after our new book since it's widely believed to be coming out soon. Chances are pretty good something will change that will effect the desired formatting of either the Scatter d3 dice or the artillery dice at least slightly.

I love the numerals that you came up with, and you even nailed the "10" - bravo! I would delete the beastie from these number faces - it just makes the number smaller and distracts the eye, IMO. Can we see a clean version before you go off a'killin Skaven?

The dice with the flame and spike pips is cool, don't get me wrong, but I think on a dice it would just be too small to read easily during a game.

My only thought is that maybe we can do something different for the 4 - I like a mixture of iconography, not just lizards and snakes (the ziggarut is especially good). Here's a take on something resembling a meso-American native axe:

Back to dice for a moment, I think Scalenex's idea of waiting for the army book is valid. We'll probably be nerfed to buggery and will need to revert to Bob's original dice design:


Finalizing something now would be low risk - the print number for dice would be low enough that a significant volume discount wouldn't enter into it.

Question is: nail some options now?

Its a bitch to fold but I'm sure Chessex can handle it.

I think the two clear options for the Artillery Dice are Pips VS Numerals. We should probably put it to a forum-wide vote. Are the polls working yet? That would make easier, but posting responses here would work too. Or if y'all want to vote a little more secretly we could make a poll on surveymonkey or something. Kind of like what we did for the other dice.

As for the other designs, the D3 and the Scatter, I agree with Scalenex and Bob in that we ought to wait for the new book before we finalize those. August is only 3 months away. I think I can hold out that long.


Oh and Bob, there may be a few undesirable side effects to your new condition. Things leaking, stuff falling off, rather unpleasant odors, etc. I suppose a Life Slann may have provided better results but necromancy is so much easier.

Qupakoco, can you get templates from a manufacturer? If I pause in the hurtin' of Skaven for a bit I could get final images done in a week or so.

Pure concept here, not perfectly executed but...


The 4 is a figure/ground puzzle with 4 temple cities with glyphs: Hexoatl, Tlaxtlan, something Sotec-y and Bob (or a triangle for scatter direction if required)

This passes T'hinker'er's "not another snake" test but maybe not the clarity test.

I've fattened up T'hinker'er's axe to match the chunkiness of the other numbers, but I'm not sure if it says "axe" anymore.

I'd be happy with any of these combinations. I think I prefer the 4x temple city 4, and the 8 without the reentry vehicle on top (the bottom one).

What's a ziggurat, by the way? I was drawing the Old One's spaceship.
