9th Age Discussion of OpenHammer (ETC) and Ninth Age (Swedish Comp)

Stuff like all other WoC monsters, all beastmen monsters the. Fire Phoenix, likely the big mammoth thingy from OK and the big spider from O&G need a point reduction to reflect their actual value and they're all likely worse than the Ancient Stegadon. That's a lot of monsters.

So all WoC monsters other than the chimera need a point reduction? My hellcannons like the sound of that! :D

I agree that the Ancient Stegadon is pretty good in comparison to other monsters. I also agree that the HPA, Chimera and Frostheart are all significantly superior. I'd place the hellcannon, Aracknarok Spider and the Khemrian Warsphinx on roughly

That means all the other monsters need to get redone then, haha.

For the most part, at least in the meta that existed during 8th.

Other than frost phoenix and chimera how many monsters did you really see in the most competitive environments? Even HPA was largely replaced because of unreliability. Too unreliable... In a skaven army.

Also, since railroading still exists it makes HPA pretty trivial to deal with for some armies.

Either way for the most part monsters were in an odd place during 8th. They needed to be almost too good to be worth the point risk.

Im a fan of swedishcomp, and visit their forums alot. I posted the list of changes in their forums yesterday.
There is also the more international forums if anybody wants to post: http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=98

The swedish: http://swfbr.ipbhost.com/index.php?showforum=65

Alright I think it's very nice of you to put it on the swedish forum. Very good. However, I think we could do something more.

Would it be alright for you to make the following very clear at the top of your post (either by your own words or just straight up copy/paste):

1) the list is from the members of Lustria Online (Lizardmen forum) and thus not just from a single person, but the entire community. Very important.

2) We feel that our book is quite balanced to begin with (with the exception of a few odd ones out).

3) the goal of the list isn't to suggest drastic changes, but small changes. We feel that only small tweaks should be done, so that we can easily track the performance of tweaks and continue from there.

Also have you only posted the list on the swedish forum or also the English one?

Making the suggested changes to the post on the Sweedish page, as Pinktaco made, would be a good idea. We need to make it clear, that these rules are actually not just one persons suggestions. I realise that you did make a small remark about it, but that was at the very end of the suggestions; it would be better if it was made as clear cut as possible. ;)

EDIT:
I see you have made it very clear now what we think as a community about these suggestions ;) Great!
Now let's see what anybody, but us, thinks about these changes.

I'll make one for the English forum as well. We need to expose this as much as possible so the right people see it.

I'm just waiting for the activation of my account. Hope it doesn't take, too long since it's not something that happens automatically, but by an administrator

Well that's a pretty effective way of decreasing the amount of BOTs, I suppose. We'll just have to wait a bit then.
I'm personally trying to read through the suggestions of both the Swedish and English said. Granted my Swedish is a bit rusty :P

I see a couple of comments about skink cohorts and as you point out, they are tricky, to say the least. I feel like the 5 points are decent spent on them, but I often just tend to use skirmishers anyway. This might be because skirmishers grants the quality and performance I need for the skinks, and thus any change is simply to sooth other play styles. Although I like using a couple of cohorts, the skirmishers just out shine them :P

It's because they serve multiple roles (shooting at high movement vs melee). We can't really justify reducing their point cost and they don't really work that well as tarpits right now.

Small bunkers and objective takers are my take on their purpose. Is that so bad though? VC use skellies to hide their necromancer and zombros as cheap tarpits. In their case it's much more important to get a point decrease on ghouls.

I'd say skrox units are of s higher priority, but that can wait for all I care.

Saurus Scar Veteran
Raise base cost by 5 points
Reduce cost of spear by 2 points
Reduce cost of Carnosaur by 10 points
I agree with the reductions for spear (almost useless anyway because of the presence of Great Weapons and Halberd) and Carnosaur. But I don't get why you proposed a raise of the base cost. 85 points (15 points more than an Elf) and 140 points (the same as an Elf) seems quite fair to me. We have got better S, R, A but worse M, WS, I and the same Ld (beacause of Cold Blood) and W so the stats are quite equilibrate. We have Predatory Fighter and Scaly Skin, they have ASF, some kind of Prowess (depending on the type of elf...) and way cheaper options...
I could agree that a general re-pricing of the characters may be a good idea, but here we are talking of only one army assuming that the other armies stays almost the same (at least in the details that do not an urgent update)
.

I think there's a point to be had when comparing with other armies. Though it might be more of an issue that should be address with the other armies, not necessarily just with ours. Are heroes in generally getting of too cheap for certain armies? Or does our have something unique? I feel like we could stay at the same point for scar and Oldblood, since everything is getting down in cost, but cannons. Though we should also think about this as rebalancing and if everything just goes down in point that's not really what is done. I guess we'll first now when we see, some more consistent ideas of changes for the other armies. :P

This is pretty exciting. OpenHammer seems really awesome, can't wait to see the army books

By the looks of it the LM forum is the second most active army forum, or well it's tied at a first with O&G
