9th Age Discussion of OpenHammer (ETC) and Ninth Age (Swedish Comp)

I guess we'll have to wait and see what the Swedish comp guys come up with. I think @Scalenex was correct that the changes should be small and gradual in order to gain acceptance from the gaming community.

Horrible... 5 points INCREASE for impact hit (1). Leadership 6!??!

I haven't seen anything really that'll make much difference. +1I on charge is useless in most cases for us

The only way I could have accepted a price increase on the Kroxigors would be if the chargers got to swing first regardless of ASL or initiative (like it was in 7th edition). The way it looks now is that they took an underpowered unit and made them worse. Leadership 6... no thanks... they're still leadership 7 under the 8th edition rules! I've never played ETC myself and after reading all this I don't plan to.

Hopefully Swedish comp are going to do the simple upgrade solution. I reckon we'll see something more like gradual upgrade, especially if they cool with suggestion. Of course we don't know if they actually are going to implant these suggestion. One can hope.

I really don't know what to expect from the Swedish comp guys, but with what I've got a vibe about, it'll be better then this.

I don't like the -1 Ld, to balance out any bonus cold-blooded gave; these ETC guys seems to think is a good idea....

It doesn't make sense to balance bonuses by changing stats, it should be the point cost that changed.

lol I was translating, then i noticed that you didn't need it anymore

Well did we get the basics with translate or was there more to it? :-)

WHAT! There is only 1 magic armor and no banners, I do hope this is only temporary, since it is still in alpha.

And Lizardmen only got 1 change.

These changes seem very drastic, i think im staying with 9th age.

Here is the alpha incase anyone hasn't seen it yet, looking really good so far in my opinion!

One change, more points for a cowboy? hehe ... yeah because that's seems like the only think that needed to be balanced :P These guys have properly only played lizardmen very few times, or only faced them as opponents. My guess is the later ;)

Well if anything in our book should be nerfed its cowboys. They are focusing more on BRB changes than actual armie changes right now i believe.

So it seems we need to send them our suggestions soon if we want to have a chance that some of it will be changed/implemented.

What we got so far seems pretty decent. It's not a too extensive alteration for from the last army book; probably better off with these minor adjustments, then what else could be cook up around the internet :P

Ooooh fvck guys this is it. The Swedish Comp system is exactly what we wanted to begin with. This is 100% better than the ETC system even if all we get is "derp 35pts mounts".

I have a friend who LOVE his wood elfs and were very bummed out by the new forest spirits. I'm quite happy on his behalfs about the following:

5+ ward to forest spirits.
Dryads can be skirmish for free.
Treekins back at S5.

Boom suddenly a forest spirit army is actually viable.

On top of that The Stag Sisters (can't remember name) have soul quench. That's a decent spell and definately a bump up in their utility.

Besides that I like the following:

No more unbreakable nurgle prince, he's now stubborn. In fact nurgle is now "reroll To Hit rolls of 6" which is still very good, but not OP. Also Mark of Slaanesh = armour piercing.

No more 2 of the following: steam tank, terrogheist,.. Likely others?

Banner of world dragon = 60pts (FVCKING FINALLY) and Book of Hoeth is now 75pts and can only be used once per casting/dispel phase - which comes off as a bit too much? Unless I misread.

Oh yeah Great Cannons moved to rare section in the Empire book.

Also Dwellers Bellow haven't changed, but Purple Sun have.

Yeah this won't do diddle sh1t because lets face it:

Oldblood becoming 5pts more expensive is a joke. He'll still be an utterly beast for what we pay and nurfing the Deamon Prince will only make him much more eye catching once the games are rolling.
15pts more expensive scar vets won't quite change things, but it's a decent price bump.

I have to admit that the issue isn't the actual mount, but the character themself. Who else can claim to have a 4+ save on top of regular armour? The OB can very very easily gain 1+ save even on foot and still be a bad as's. Obviously this will highly depend on what magic items can be given though, if enchanted shield is gone it'll make a difference for the infantry OB.

Of course if the goal is to counter measure every decent model, in each army; these changes are fine. But I thought balance was about making each armies final options balanced, such that certain option for an army are "cheap" due to the lack of other options. We have some good hero close combatants, since we don't have much other stuff in the meta when it comes to close quarter combat. ... or am I missing the point. ..

The wizard do not have to declare which lore he uses on the army list. He may choose any of the available lores before generating spells (normal restrictions for the wizard still applies).

This seems cool on a slann, costly though.
Alot of the lizardmen feedback talked about making monsters better (canons will probably get nerfed) and saurus getting back marks to make them more useful.

Sacred spawnings would be cool, but that seems like a huge step.
I actually like the approach scalenex has made in the fluff sections of our forum. It feels pretty fair, as a starting point

But that's how I like em :(

I don't think it's OP, because we have next to no warmachines and while we do have shooting it's rather short ranged, making us more of a (in my opinion) magic and combat army, which should mean that we get the combat and magic cheaper than other armies.
