Very cool woodwork on that Disc, intricate yet not distracting. If you are going to paint it, maybe avoid blue and white colours, as it would make it look too much like a snowflake. Unless that is your goal.

That disc is really nice, are you thinking of painting it or just clear lacquer?
Thanks. The plan is to paint it, but when I get around to it is the real question. So many things to paint, so little time!

On another note; I love your woodworking skills! Especially the paint rack with the hidden tzeentch mark, and of course the spectacular tzeentch sorcerer disk. It's like looking at a beautiful snowflake, only big! And made of wood!
Thank you very much!

That's good advice. I haven't settled on a colour scheme yet, but I'll definitely avoid blue and white! The last hing I want to end up with is a Chaos Lord flying on a giant snowflake! :p

Here is an old Dryad Skirmisher movement tray I made a while back (before the current Wood Elves army book was released). Too bad Dryads can no longer skirmish, not much use for this tray now. :( At least it is finished and painted... unlike most of my stuff. In hindsight, I wish I would have crinkled up the leaves on the base.

Let me know what you think!

Nice. Were the stone and the symbol carved from one block? Was the symbol cut separately and glued into the 'rock'?

Thanks. The symbol was cut out separately from the stone.

The stone itself is actually made up of two parts; the front piece and a thin backer.

Very impressive, how long does something like that take to carve and construct?, fishing for ideas for my first venture into terrain making.

And I have a request, when I start my terrain would it be ok to post some photos here?.

I'm going to start a lesser race paint blog as well soon and will combine that with any terrain I try to make/paint.

Here is another piece I did a while back. It is a tiny Tzeentch symbol that I plan to paint as if it had been carved out of stone. I haven't found a use for it yet, but when I do, it will finally receive some paint!
Looks very good.

I feel that the Tzeentch symbol is a little too perfect though. Considering it is supposed to have been chiseled out of stone. Perhaps it would be an idea to carefully rough it up slightly on the edges.

The most time consuming part is coming up with a design/idea. It can take a fair bit of time to settle on the exact dimensions to use (I'm indecisive!). This piece took a bit longer because the filing was done by hand, however now that I have my rotary tool it would be a much faster process.

Just curious, why not start up a terrain thread of your own so you can collect all your work there? I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Good point! I'm thinking of one of two options...
  1. rough up the edges as you suggest and paint it stone colour along with the rest of the piece
  2. leave the edges sharp, but paint it up to look like metal (either gold or steel/iron), while the rest of the piece is still painted as stone
Which do you think would be better?
