Blog NIGHTBRINGER's Terrain & Warhammer Woodworking Projects

Have you thought about just attaching the magnets to the base and the sheet metal (I use magnetic sheets - cheap and easy to cut) to the underside of the model? Seems like it would make those magnets stretch a lot farther.

for wood to wood contact...
I suppose it could be slightly smaller than the wood,
and either add small strips or hollow out one of the wood pieces.
but then it probably isn't saving as much time...
I fully admit that the wood-to-metal bond is more than strong enough, it's merely a mental disturbance/deficiency in my mind :shifty:. lol

That's an awesome tool for table saws. My father-in-law is a professor in Graphic Design at Auburn University and makes a lot of kinetic sculpture pieces mostly using wood and has an amazing crafting shop in his back yard. He has one of these on his table saw. He has demonstrated how quickly it stops to me before as well. It really scares you when it kicks off! He said that you really go through some saw blades with it though. I guess it only makes sense, but that is a perfectly acceptable trade off in my opinion.
That is so cool that you got to see it in action in person. Hitting the blade is a costly mistake (need to replace both the blade and the stopping mechanism), but not as costly (or permanent) as loping a finger off! So you said your father in law has gone through many blades... how many times has he made that mistake?

I like the magnets on the base of the models, because I stick them to the inside of my storage tool box with or without a movement tray. Luckily, I can usually find a good deal on rare earth magnets from China on eBay.

I don't know if my father-in-law has ever had a mistake on himself (he's really quite careful) but he is a professor, so he has lots of students and other people wanting to see how it works, so...

Good point. That's quite the expensive curiosity those students have!

WOW, Im loving this thread of yours, I'm making some ally 2ft by 2ft trays at work to start making a table and this has inspired me no end.

I have temple of skulls going on one board, Zigguart on another, Mage tower on another, Mountain range, Swamp, etc, etc.

I'd be tempted to impale something on there...
Would that something be a warm blood who is deserving of the wrath of the Old Ones and their scaly children? ;)

Thank you!

That sounds amazing... take some pictures!

Sounds great... I look forward to it!

With my boy being only 8, I am trying to come up with something he will be involved with, my idea is to build a 8 by 4 table were he can start with a band of say 3 characters and then encounter lots of troubles on his journey to a mountain top tower were he will meet something very bad!, if he defeats the troubles he can add a character to his war band, with the troubles getting harder increasing the tension on his war band choices, I will present him with 3 choices so he can add one, hes loving the idea just got to get it into practice!

It will allow us to collect loads of great models and concentrate on painting characters.

It sounds like you guys will have an awesome time with that. I'm sure it will be a great entry point into the hobby.
Hmmm... perhaps add some lashings around the tops of the palisade's,
like this....

I've always wanted to make a fort based on something like this. It will be a fun project for sure.

And to think you said you didn't have any talent!

You my friend have a steady hand and a fine eye.

You're not alone in wanting to do so. Some day, some day.

On another note; I love your woodworking skills! Especially the paint rack with the hidden tzeentch mark, and of course the spectacular tzeentch sorcerer disk. It's like looking at a beautiful snowflake, only big! And made of wood!
