Blog NIGHTBRINGER's Terrain & Warhammer Woodworking Projects

While I work away at some of my current projects (some of which should have pictures soon), I thought I would share some pictures of old abandoned projects. First up, is my C'tan pillars. This thing is over a decade old, originally designed for my Necron Nightbringer model (the circle in the middle perfectly houses the Nightbringer's round base). I only ever finished 2 of the 4 pillars, and even those still need to be cut to proper length. I regret cutting the pillars out of pine, I think I should have used something much harder like maple (which I didn't have access to at the time). My original idea was to have a green light shining from below (housed in the first two steps). Anyways, this project currently resides up north at my folk's place in a box somewhere, but I had a couple of pictures on my computer to share...

Ooooo. That's beautiful! Maybe you could make one more that's been broken off or something. Also, with those cut-outs you could do some awesome LED backlighting! Place an interchangeable colored transparency sheet on the underside and a light beneath that, and you'd have one cool looking piece of terrain!

Thanks everyone! To be honest I'd have to re-work most of it. I really think it would benefit from a different selection of wood. Plus my cutting accuracy has improved. Maybe one day; too many projects on the go!

I like that!

I can clearly imagine a green light illuminating a C'tan. Honestly, that'd look awesome.

Have you ever thought of doing something similar (lighting wise) for a Slann?
Thank you! I haven't thought of doing something quite like this for the Slann because I'm not sure if it would mesh very well with the Lizardmen's Aztec theme. It's honestly why I haven't been able to come up with as many Lizardmen woodworking projects. Any ideas are welcome though!!!

Your pillars kinda remind me of toy train whistles! :joyful:

Your carving skill is truly impressive! I wouldn't even want to approach a project like that! :nailbiting:

Thank you very much. It isn't as hard as it looks to be honest. It's a simple two stage process where you cut the same image from two sides. It's 2 sets of 2 dimensional cutting that ends up creating a 3 dimensional effect. The only downside is I can't use wood that is too thick, or the blade tends to deviate a bit and the front and back sides don't line up properly. I would need to invest in a high end scroll saw for that kind of work. However for pieces that aren't too thick (the pillars are made from 1cm thick wood) it seems to workout pretty well.

Hey everyone

Here is another abandoned project. This time it's a Wyrding well. I had made pieces of it (steps and platform) over a decade ago. Those pieces were lost and forgotten for quite some time, until I decided to do something with them a few years ago. The terrain piece has since been undercoated, but I never really liked it so I didn't bother to spend time painting it. Like I said, it's an old piece (in my opinion nowhere near the best I can do), but I thought I'd share it anyways...

You could turn it into a sacrificial sake pit for Sotec.

Now THAT is a good idea.

I'm thinking a snakes from the Bastiladon kit and a few unfortunate skeletons in the pit? :p

lots of green stuff snakes in the bottom, covered up my the better plastic snakes. ;)
Swap the Chaos bits for Lizardmen bits...

That's good idea, so much so that it deserves to have a new an improved terrain piece built for it. This design is old, and doesn't have a very Lizardmen-like feel to it.

I'll have to add the sacrificial snake pit of Sotec to my list of terrain ideas to build!!

Cheers

Looks awesome! I do think that it'd probably work better as a WoC piece, with purple flames in the pit (you could even light it with LED lights beneath the base). "Floating" stone slabs as steps would look super cool too! It would all to the "mystical" feel to it. Great work though! I'd really like to see a snake pit too!

+1
To both statements.

This begs the question, 'what feel does this piece have?'

Crater: 40K or chaos wastes.
Steps: Elven work; one of the non-sylvan flavors.
Posts: Empire but they look too big like they were meant for 54mm figures.

Agreed, that is what it was designed for (the original steps/platform was made for 40k)

Me too! Its on my list of things to do... but that is a very long list however!

I think the best fit is as a Chaos Wyrding Well. Anything goes in the chaos wastes. That would also account for the differences in style, as an original piece of architecture may have been corrupted and modified by the taint of chaos.
This is all fantastic work! Very very gifted indeed. I wish I was as organised haha I work out my small gw case full of paints :p
Thank you kindly! :) The paint shelf has been most helpful... but if you saw all the half finished, WIP models on top of it, you might not call it organized, hahaha. :D

Time for something new! I'm finally getting around to making a Lizardmen inspired terrain piece :):):). The plan is to magic a Lizardmen magic circle. I'd like to keep the piece on the smaller side (6-8" in diameter). The idea is to create a golden relic that has been unearthed from the top of a very small hill. The golden relic will be embedded on the topside of the hill.

Here is the start of the first piece, a death mask glyph, which will be placed in the very center of the magic circle...

All the inside cuts are complete, time to move onto the outside. The teeth should be tricky.
