Blog Painting of Renown! (Just kidding... but this is my blog)

I think it looks great as is and that you did a stellar job with it. Patchy or not, you should be proud of it, and happy with it if you stop here.

If I may, the only idea I have if you decided to try to handle the patchy spots near the feet, is you could add some sand piled up around the feet to show the weight of it pushing sand up.

but again, looks really great as is and I personally love it. Well done!

Thanks mate!

I'll try adding a little bit more sand on the really patchy bits.

Okay, so I found a color scheme that I like.

I'm totally out of touch with 40K fluff, but I'm pretty sure that "Kalabite of the Obsidian Rose" is a Dark Eldar thing.

I like the scheme, so I'll use it for my Chaos Dwarfs!

I need to order the paints and then watch some videos for how to do the effects.

That looks very fitting for Chaos Dwarfs.
Good luck

@Sudsinabucket

Hi matey. Any ideas what video I would search for for this kind of bleeding effect on the Kalabite armour? (from two posts above)

Or any advice yourself? :D
I'm really not sure about videos specifically for this, but I'll take a look and see if I can find some. @Imrahil or @LordBaconBane might?

As for my own....

I have no idea for the helm and such, but for the legs I'd base/prime black, building up layers of khorne and med reds, darker to lighter and maybe a blood angels wash? Followed by pallid wych flesh for the highlight line down, and probably nuln oil

Not 100% sure but from looking that's what id consider personally. I'd love another opinion though or your own thoughts on how you'd do it. I dont do 40k, so that kind of armor is a little off my game, but fun to think about

From a knowledge friend via IG/Discord:

"Basecoat Khorne red. Heavy shading with contrast black or Nuln Oil. The its a gradient highlight on all the edges of the panels, all the way from dark red to orange/yellow. For the colors of the gradients check this tutorial: https://www.instagram.com/p/CGKTImnH-X6/ "

So, kinda what I was saying, and that is a tutorial he suggested! Hope it helps!

I think I found a youtube tutorial that gets close to what you want to achieve.
The thing is it is mostly Vallejo paints...

the one from GW by Duncan gives quite a different result.

Thanks guys.

I love this community for exactly this kind of reason.

I'm a little imtimidated with the longer videos, so I'm going to try doing what Duncan says with basecoating Abaddaon Black and then using two reds and an orangey color to make edge highlights and see how it goes.

In other news, I finally started my Magma Cannon. REEEEEEAAAALLY annoying having to cut the tiny bits of the sprues, but that's done now and I'm onto fitting everything together.

Yes, now the fun begins ;)
I am interested to see your progress

Hi @Lizards of Renown. I know I'm late to post, but I agree with @Sudsinabucket that a Khorne Red base with Black Templar Contrast wash might be a quick method for getting the foundation you want. When Contrast first came out, the owner at my local shop tried out that exact color combo (not for Eldar, just messing around). The space marine he painted had really nice dark red armor with lighter red edges. It might take two washes to get the almost black armor look though, so it would be smart to test a model.

Good luck.

Thanks! Once my Chaos Dwarf infantry arrive, I'm going to try yours/Suds suggestion, the video from Imrahil and the video from Duncan and see which one I like best.
