Blog Painting of Renown! (Just kidding... but this is my blog)

I love what you have done with them. Very thematic and it works great!
The distinction of the Taur-ruk is genius

Great work, I did not notice it yet, but it is amazing!

Grrr, Imrahil

Unlucky that you missed out on the top 3 and the random draws, but I was pleased to see the top 3 were worthy winners, certainly the best painted of the lot alongside yours.

A very nice job on those Renders! To be honest I think I prefer these to the Forge World ones, which have no armour and look too feral to fit with the rest of the Dawi-Zharr.

These turned out really great. An inspired idea with brilliant execution. Truly some of your best work.

They look awesome! Great work!

solid work and brilliant result, very inspired :)

As always, thanks a lot for the back-up guys.

It makes a big different to keeping going when I get positive feedback from the site :D

I thought they deserved a podium finish!

Thanks buddy!

So the contest of Chaos Dwarfs Online is over. I didn't get any medal, but I got an honorable mention as I was very close behind the three winners.

I'm taking that as a win! :D

So, now I can post all of the pictures. I'm really, really happy with how these guys turned out.

The whole theme of my Chaos Dwarfs is that they are the "Army of Ash and Flame" meaning they've been around the furnaces of the Chaos Dwarfs for so long that first their very skin has turned to ash and those especially chosen have become living flame or lava.

I really liked the basing I did on the Taur-ruk, as if where he put his foot down turns to lava.

Wow! These turned out so good. I love the way the Taur-ruk's skin came out in the end. They're a very impressive unit.

I'm sorry you didn't make it to the top 3. You should still be very proud of the unit though.

The skin on what I'm guessing is the unit champion (I don't know anything about Chorfs) looks awesome! Did you use one of the gw crackle paints to get that effect?

Thanks!

Yeah, I used Mordant Earth. I liked the effect so much on my Fireborn bases and then it suddenly hit me that this is the way I can make a REALLY distinctive Champion for the unit. (Interchangeable as the Hero.)

I sneaked over and checked out the contest. I could tell which one was yours and thought you were going to place top 3 for sure. That said, I agree that, based on your initial concerns about your painting skill, the honorable mention should be a positive indicator of your creativity and improving painting ability. Bravo, my good Lizard!

I am first off, your Chaos Dwarves and Giant are PHENOMENAL and I can't believe you didn't place AT LEAST 3rd in your competition - it must have been stiff (and by the sounds of it you were very close!)

Id honestly take the honorable mention as a bigger win than a medal in someways, do you know how rare an honorable mention is? So, mad congrats regardless, that's a huge win and I really hope you take it that way too.

Honestly, seeing these pictures, and even if I knew nothing about you I would (and did think), "wow, dude must do commission's or something", because I truly feel these are that incredible.

Great work man. Without nit picking I can't really see anything wrong with them, love em.

Side note: what background fabric did you use? I love that there is *no* glare.

Thanks a lot Suds. This means a lot coming from you!

The background is a black plastic clipboard and the top of a black fridge :D Somehow it works!

@Lizards of Renown : How did you create the nice effect on the armour?

My metals often look a little be too uniform.

:)

So I undercoated black, then I drybrushed Hashut Copper. Like a LOT of dry brushing. I did this quite thoroughly but specifically left it looking patchy. Then I did raised portions in a dark gold (I think I used Balthazar Gold) which gave it a nice depth.

It worked out well. Gives it an interesting effect. Feels like the giant has seen some battle, waged some war and crushed the enemies of Hashut!
