Skullcrushers at least are still running for the 4th place.

Let's try to do some brief considerations:
there are still 4 matches, so a max of +8 pts.

Skullcrushers are going to lose against the K'daii... if they manage to avoid a massive loss, they could manage to gain +5 pts (optimal result, which is far from granted), going at +8.
Trolls atm are sitting at +7... it means that in the next 4 games, to lose the third place in favor of the skullcrushers, they should win 2 and lose 2. I don't see it happens.
Then there are HPA (4 pts) and Witch elves (5 pts). It's really hard... they are imo the only ones that could manage to take that 3rd place, and of course it all boils down to:
    - WE must be able to obtain a massive win against the CT
    - HPA must still face Beasts of Nurgle...

WE won't win against the Chaos Trolls... That Regen save will be their downfall I believe.

I'm pretty sure the Beasts will do a take-down on the HPA.

    Some good analysis.

Don't forget about the Demigryph Knights either. They have worked their way back up the standings and are currently tied with the Skullcrushers.

The last few rounds of the tournament should be interesting!!!

The Beasts will have a huge wound advantage (16 vs. 6) going into that matchup. Tough match for the HPA.

Round 12, Match #1 - The Executioners must face off against the tournament leading K'daai Destroyer.

    Key rules in play:
    • Executioners: Murderous Prowess, ASF and ASL cancel each other out
    • K'daai Destroyer: Unbreakable, Unstable, Blazing Body, Bound Fire Daemon, Frenzy (D3 attacks)

    upload_2021-5-3_10-38-53.png

The K'daai Destroyer just barely manages to pull off the Massive Victory.

    Chaos Dwarfs be like:

    !.gif

    upload_2021-5-3_10-41-31.png

Can anyone remember a time when the Executioners were one of our leading contenders? The poor Dark Elf chaps have accrued 3 Massive Losses in a row in their last 3 matches. During that stretch, they have plummeted from 6 points overall to 0. For the first time in a long time, they find themselves outside of the top 8. On the plus side for them, I figure they'll win 2 of their 3 remaining matches... agree or disagree?

They'll beat the Mournfang (THUNDERCATS NOOOOOO!!!!!), I think that the Black Guard will beat them as they have the ASF and AHW (as far as I recall the Executioners are T3 and only heavy armour) and then they will beat the Hammerers mainly due to Initiative order.

Those are my predictions as well. :)

Of note, Black Guard are not armed with AHW. Black Guard have two attacks on their stat line and are armed with halberds.

@Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl @Imrahil : haven't heard from you guys in a while. Usually happens when I release the matchups too quickly, which has the effect of suffocating conversation.

Hmmmmm... well I can't say that was unexpected. Definitely a turn of events for the Executioners. I think the HPA might scramble a few more places up, but it has a pretty tough schedule up a head. I hav a friend who is getting into the game and is planning on playing WoC (he asked me what army was the best, I replied WoC, HE, and DE, and he doesn't like elves) so good to know the said warriors of chaos aren't unbeatable

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s accurate.

You are, of course, correct Weird. Not sure where I got that idea.

Definitely not unbeatable but they are extremely solid. I play WoC and there are so many good choices in their book compared to my other armies: LM, CD & TK.

Things like the Hortennse Lord and the DP (assuming the opposition does not have cannons) are about as near to unbeatable as we get in Warhammer. When accompanied by a Chimera or two they are even more problematic. WoC have solid core, cheap chaff, great chariots, Hellcannons, Trolls, Skullcrushers and one of the based special characters (for his points cost). A couple of good magic lores too.

Your friend will have a good time with the army!

Let it be said that the Chaos Dwarfs produce the very finest of daemonically forged creations!

For such a long time they were near the top of the leaderboard. They have definitely fallen on some hard times. Their remaining schedule looks decent though; they should be able to claw back a point or two.

There are only four units above it, two of which (Beasts of Nurgle and K'daai Destroyer) are realistically out of reach. So that leaves us with the Witch Elves and Chaos Trolls; which do you think the HPA can potentially pass? With the Trolls and Witch Elves still having to face each other, the HPA has the chance to make up ground on one of them.

I was trying to device a scoring system in which the Witch Elves would come higher in the ranking, but that doesn't seem to exist (at least, not a fair one :p)

With the normal soccer scoring (3 points for winning, 1 for draw and 0 for losing) the ranking would be different though:

    Round 11 standing.PNG

It definitely cramps all of them more together.

Interesting @Imrahil, Although I think NIGHTBRINGER'S ranking system is more fair.

Well, looks like I have a couple challenging games ahead of me. Should be fun as my better knowledge of tactics should be neutralized by his more powerful army.

Hahaha... they are still doing pretty well on their own. 4th place overall in this field is pretty stellar. They are likely to finish somewhere between 3rd to 5th place.

An interesting scoring metric. The HPA definitely benefits a great deal from it.

Agreed. It will make for a fun and interesting challenge... and your victories will be all the more rewarding.

Round 12, Match #2 - The HPA attempts to extend its winning streak as it takes on the Hammerers!

    Key rules in play:
    • HPA: Regeneration, Special Close Combat Attacks, Stubborn
    • Hammerers: ASL, Stubborn, Hatred (Skaven) [via Ancestral Grudge]

    upload_2021-5-4_22-27-11.png

The HPA pulls off another victory, but the Hammerers definitely made the HPA work for it. The Hammerers' first round assault (with Hatred still in effect) was particularly effective and it was the HPA's regeneration that kept it in the fight. Ultimately though, the ASL of the Hammerers did them in. A tough and gritty performance by both units!

    upload_2021-5-4_22-36-7.png

The HPA continues its impressive performance in the tournament and finds itself tied for 4th place with the Witch Elves (who still have yet to fight this round)! How many points do you think the HPA will gain/lose across its final three matches? Who has the harder remaining schedule between the Witch Elves and the HPA?

As for the Hammerers, their upcoming matchup against the Soul Grinder should be fun, but outside of that, I don't fancy their chances.

I think that all 3 of them will end up beating the HPA...

White Lions will strike first due to Initiative, Beasts I think will make it through due to their own Regen and collectively more attacks and Savage Orc's will will due to the very high number of attacks.

I think the HPA will end up in 6th place, which is still very respectable as it is a very dangerous creature.

A bold prediction! The HPA has only lost 3 matches throughout the first twelve rounds. If you are correct, you'll be owed some serious bragging rights.

I think the White Lions will lose, the Savage Orcs could go either way and I agree with you that the Beasts of Nurgle will prevail. The HPA is definitely one of the harder units to call because it is such a wild card.

The Witch Elves are a pretty cool unit. Now if we could only convince @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl :cyclops:

    [LoR shrugs]

Was just my gut feeling rather than a math-hammer prediction. I'll probably be wrong tbh.

    HOORAY!

I think the Savage Orcs will still make it with the warpaint and number of attacks. I'm pretty certain about the Beasts result, since they'll be attacking with a fair few more attacks and also have regen, plus can't be Thunderstomped.

In retrospect, since the White Lions will be Thunderstomped, I think they'll lose... :( too late to take it back I know.

Nah. He doesn't like them because of the lore, not how effective they are in combat.

Same here... I'm just going off of a gut feeling. We shall see. The HPA is difficult to predict.

True, he hates their lore, but he did also predict that they would come in dead last in our tourney. So at the very least, maybe we've at least changed his mind on their effectiveness.

Round 12, Match #3 - Beasts of Nurgle versus Arachnarok Spider

    Key rules in play:
    • Beasts of Nurgle: Daemon of Nurgle, Daemonic, Poisoned Attacks, Random Attacks (D6+1), Regeneration
    • Arachnarok Spider: Natural Armour (4+), Poisoned Attacks (Spider only), Stubborn, Venom Surge

    upload_2021-5-5_18-39-23.png

Well what did we expect when the powerhouse Beasts of Nurgle take on the lowly Spider? Sorry spider fans ( @The Great White Lizard )

    upload_2021-5-5_18-43-32.png

For record, the Beasts of Nurgle are currently on a tournament high 7 fight win streak! (even the K'daai Destroyer can't make that claim)
