not much better and vastly more expensive

That feels contrary to what I've heard elsewhere - nearly everywhere else I've seen opinions more along the lines of "more expensive, but with quality to match". Albeit that's a generalisation, there have been some stating that the price of Forgeworld is an instant turnoff regardless of quality.

But you feel like the first opinion I've seen stating Forgeworld resin as bad quality.

Funnily enough I've heard about some Forge World kits still being poor quality with parts not being formed properly... @NIGHTBRINGER old chap, would you be willing to tell @J.Logan of the Tragedy of the Forge World Magma Cannon?

Moreover, even if such stories did not exist, I still wouldn't pay the BS prices Forge World models charge for quality when I can get hard plastic kits that are significantly cheaper (or in the case of GW ones, just cheaper ;)).

Fair.

I only have two kidneys, I couldn't buy many Forge World models even if I wanted to. I'll be happy with just my Gabriel Angelos model :-P

This is true. The fit & finish of FW models is far below GW plastics. They require a much larger amount of prep work before the painting process can begin. Large gaps must be filled, warping must be heated + reshaped and models must be cleaned of the mold release agent prior to priming. On top of that, we've got other limitations of resin in that it is toxic when being filed/sanded and you can't utilize plastic glue in assembly.

On the plus side, Forge World represents some of the nicest sculpts that GW has produced, but you've got to invest more work in them before they can be placed on the battlefield. Once upon a time it was not possible for GW to match the sculpt quality of FW resin with plastic or metal. However, with today's technology, anything can be cast in plastic.

And with resin 3d printers, what IS made in resin should be looking good with minimal work required? :-P

That makes me wonder why Forge World hasn't switched to a 3d printer farm for their goods, but I can admit the logistics of such are beyond my ken. The only logistical reason I can come up with is that swapping out the injection mould whatevers costs more than starting from nothing, as that's old machinery that needs to be disposed off.

Not to mention that named characters like that are the kind of model you only ever get one of unless it comes with missing parts (BTW if this does happen to you, let GW know with proof - they'll ship out a whole new kit for you free of charge), gets damaged beyond repair, or goes missing.

That is one thing I will always say about GW. They have been good about broken or missing items. I bought one of the Asmodai statues years ago and the power plant backpack was pulverized. They sent an entirely new one even though I only needed the pack.

Some new models. @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl I know what your quarrel is, them being the human factions again. But I do quite like them:

Grrr, !mrahil

You're right in that they are yet more models for the LOTR human factions, but I'm willing to give these a free pass because they've both been around as unit ideas for the Middle-Earth games for a while now (since the old Legions of Middle Earth book first defined them as part of the army lists GW intended to make model ranges for as part of what was then just the Lord of the Rings SBG), and were never given official models or rules for them. Good to see GW finally change that... and I do like the War Drake models, they'd have nice applications outside Middle-Earth, particularly as Razordon conversions for Warhammer Fantasy Lizardmen. Shame though that, like 90% of new Middle-Earth models, they'll be Forge World Resin yet again :wtf:

In prep for a recent 800pt game, my opponent and I both agreed to some commonsense house rules regarding playable models. With the jump to the new edition, both of us had lost a few options for our respective armies, be it model wargear options or full-on models altogether (he lost his entire Kingdom of Moria collection, among other things), so our tentative agreement is to allow for models or model options we purchased and built previously to be ported over within reason (i.e. no Isengard Trolls in an Uruk-Hai Scout formation).

This, coupled with the realization that I could legally run an Arnor army as a Realms of Men army instead of being obligated to take King Arvedui, led me to putting together the following list:

Realms of Men (Arnor) 799/800

Heroes of Legend (303)
  • King of Men (Arnor) w/ heavy armour, horse (100)
    • 4× Knight of Arnor (60)
    • 1× Hobbit Archer w/ Warhorn (30)
    • 1× Warrior of Arnor w/ Banner (33)
    • 10× Warrior of Arnor (80)
Heroes of Fortitude (496)
  • Captain of Arnor w/ Shield (60)
    • 1× Warrior of Arnor w/ Banner (33)
    • 10× Warrior of Arnor (80)
  • Captain of Arnor w/ Shield (60)
    • 1× Warrior of Arnor w/ Banner (33)
    • 10× Warrior of Arnor (80)
  • Captain of Arnor w/ Bow (60)
    • 10× Ranger of Arnor w/ Spear (90)
