What are you doing today hobbywise?

Been making and painting some Saurus Warriors! Yes you heard that right... ;)

Just making a movement tray for my 18 strong horde of Ushabti! (too bad I don't actually have that many Ushabti :()

I thought Ushabti were seen by many as a sub-par choice for TK due to their poor armour save and how the rules for healing animated contstructs suck with Monstrous Infantry? Regardless, I like them and a massive horde of 18 would be unduly epic!

Also, if you're looking for Ushabti, Mantic games do metal Ushabti for their KoW Empire of Dust range which are decently priced for 3:

It was a pretty fun specialty game to play, to say the least. Apart from the usual dice rolling for command checks, broadside attacks and boarding actions, card draws are used to represent unpredictable sea conditions and inflicted damage (be it to the crew, the hull, the sails, the ship's mascot, etc), making each round an interesting affair.

I'm pleased to hear that Dreadfleet remains popular with those who have it - my main Warhammer opponent bought it and showed me the rulebook but we never got round to playing it as he got an apprenticeship while I went off to college and then University. It looked a great game when it came out, and I can't understand why it didn't sell well in some places. I loved the Dwarf Ironclad, the Tomb King galley and the Chaos Dwarf Kraken - here are some images of them from the lore:

Perhaps, although all melee choices in the TK army book are sub par when compared to the offerings from the other army books. So the question becomes how effective are the Ushabti in relation to their TK counterparts. That was the topic discussed in this thread, specifically what is the best TK hammer unit:

For Tomb Kings the top 4 contenders (in my opinion) as the best hammer unit are:
  • Tomb Guard
  • Ushabti
  • Necropolis Knights (only at smaller unit sizes)
  • Chariots (only on the charge)

I've been playing Tomb Guard for a while and I want to give Ushabti a try. Plus I really like the models!

Thanks, I've seen those. To be honest I am not really a fan of them. I think the GW Ushabti sculpts are head and shoulders above Mantics. Also, I don't think a mixed unit combining the two would look very good.

At the moment I have 10 metal GW Ushabti and 6 Failcast Bowshabti.

My personal favourites are the Flaming Scimitar and Skabrus. The former is mostly because of the lack of Araby representation on the tabletop (plus, it's an elemental-powered sail ship), and the latter is mostly because of the comically Skaven "warpstone on a stick" method of steering the undead leviathan.

There was a great contest in my local GW - to create a themed ship for one of the Warhammer armies to play with (best one won a free set of the game)
I planned to create a giant puss filled bloat fish for nurgle, but never got round to it.
The winner was an awesome darkelf spiked flotilla with a war hydra grafted to the front.
Sadly the game vanished all too quickly

Today I get to finish painting my converted Bastiladon - will post pics in my blog when done. (Probably an hour or so from now)

Then I start work on my Orruk sculpts.

Deep breath.

Sculpting... slow going but good fun (until work at 1pm) back at it when I get home Monday morning...erghh

Chickened out last night but will probably continue work on the "Failosaur" tonight.
(notice how I put it in quotes this time? Yes, it is almost reaching decent quality after a boatload of corrections)

Nothing, these are from the SC box and I'm doing a bit more on them, only got weapons and shields, bases and AB to do now.

I will put off doing my troops for now :D takes too long, but I will need to at some point !

Lol what is happening to you two ;D
Fighting frustration a bit.
If the Carnosaur wasn't almost finished I'd probably consider doing some simple horde unit instead, just to do something more simple that I have done a few times already.
But then I don't want to make my backlog bigger, now that I am finally getting most of my old stuff done.

Finished the Carrion Hounds (Gryph-Hounds) time to take some pictures.
They haven't been sealed yet because I want to find one I can brush on that won't change the paintwork much. Had too many problems with the spray.

I'm the same got sh** loads to paint but I'm trying to finish Seraphon first, only got a Basilidon, Stegadon, 3 Rippers, 3 Krox, 3 salamanders, 3 Razordons, 10 Chamo skinks, 9 Skink handlers, 10 warriors left to do, all in Tlazcotl’s Gaze scheme.

Got this one Morghast I haven't built yet as the other was used for the Chaq'Kai Lizardmen. Going to see what I am alter it to and that, maybe a beast of sorts
