Blog Something Big this way comes....(***For Sale***)

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 25th***)

I'm curious about the rope that seems to lead to the mouth of the dewback, I can't see where it goes. It looks like a briddle of some sort but the picture doesn't allow me to figure it out by myself. What is it???

I am planning on having 2 kroxigors pulling the reigns on one of the leg platforms.

More painting to come soon :)

You sir, are a god walking amongst mere mortals.
And i think it needs scales on it!

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 25th***)

Sao.. I love the ideas of scales on this thing too...but SUCK at Greenstuff...so I am scared to attempt it and screw it up... LOL All the platforms as of now are removable and that still leaves the beast to be converted a bit if needed...but hopefully someone will show up with the skills needed to assist me :)

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 25th***)

try on a curved surface first (old pastic cup is good)

its how i got myself good at it. just look online for some great Green stuff molding. or get some fake crocidile skin.

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 25th***)

holy crap, that's amazing!
I really hope the jungle goes as well as the rest
if you have few spare trees, I'd add them behind and under the lizard
(I see few fallen trees, but there are much more in front of him)

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 25th***)

Matis: Yes I have over 400 more trees to shred and waste on the underside. There will be lots of flocking, tall grasses and other stuff to make the jungle as "jungle'y" as possible :)

I made progress last night with a new addition to the Thunder Lizard. With some great opinions from my friends Chase and Matt I came up with a cool way to use the extra Stegadon heads.

I introduce...The TAIL SPIKE SKULL RING of DEFENSE!!!! (can't think of a better name :P)

Thoughts?

The Ring of Skulls does come on and off. All the rope is hand tied and wrapped..(boy that was fun)..Also I need to re-ink and bone up on the color a little bit...

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 28th***)

I think it looks great and is a cool idea, though, it does stand out quite abit against the TL's skin...

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 28th***)

Started to work on some of the side leg platforms. I was thinking about the color for these ALOT. I figure the Main Platform with the Engine of the Gods on it would be gold, along with the Slann Driver Platform. But the leg platforms are only just platforms for skinks. I decided to make them stone with flares of white and blue coloring to tie them in.

Let me know what you think... I only worked the bottom part of one to get a feel for it...Shields still need highlighting and some ropes need clean up work..but you can see what I am going for...

Your thoughts?

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 28th***)

It's a good idea. As long as there is at least one common color to draw the viewers eye from one to the next point; you'll be fine.

I'm looking forward to seeing them on the monster and get that thing to STOMPING! :pigeon:

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 28th***)

Ok so with HOB off line for me...

Does anyone have and Stegadon heads for sale or trade? I need 10 more to complete my Thunderlizard Project. Preferable the head with the mouth closed.

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 28th***)

I'll check my sprues/bits when I get home from work tonight...I believe I may have one of those steg heads.

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update April 28th***)

Ok big update here....

Lets see... A friend of mine suggested another platform for the Terradons to RE-ARM themselves with more Boulders extending the usefulness of them... So right behind the Roost I created a small platform that will be loaded with boulders.

I also am creating a larger Skull ring just below the boulder platform. This will have 6 Stegadon Skulls on it and will be tied in a similar fashion. I am also working on a Stegadon Skull Necklace around where the Slann sits.

I also have painted up (not done yet) My Kroxigar Reign Pullers.

Here is the Slann Driver....

(I Tried the standard color for the Slann but he just got lost in the model. So I figured the color I used to tie the platforms together worked well...)

I also thought it would nice if the runes on the platform seem to "power up" let me know what you think.

Still left to be painted: Boulder Platform, 1 Leg Platform, The Thunder Lizard, its spiky bits and more I am sure...

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update May 6th***)

I wasn't sure exactly how you planned to do the rein pullers, but now I get it, and they look fantastic!
Can't wait to see all the Steg Skull stuff, and am happy my idea of a reloading station type of thing carried weight.
I think the runes 'powering up' effect is pretty good, but wouldn't it make more sense for them to 'power up' and be fully charged at the bottom, and less charged at the top? As the power goes up the things...? Unless you're planning for a discharge beamish thingie, in which case my whole little paragraph here is redundant ><

I also really like your blue scheme, what blues are they? They look great on the Slann (if anyone asks about all the blue, just say every crew model [Slann included] is blessed by Quetzl [because, like, THEY'RE RIDING A THUNDER LIZARD, don't get better protection then that] and because Lizzie scales are blue... The Slann is blue ;) ).

Can't wait to see this painted. It will look sick!

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update May 6th***)

it sure looks fantastic, just as expected! :D

one thing i noticed though: maybe you should greenstuff the leg joint on the thunder lizard to make smoother stransition from leg to body (maybe you havent even begun working on that yet :P)

the slann looks very nice, but he sorta melts in to the background with all the blue on the platform. maybe its worth putting some effort in to really making him visible.

what color will you have on the thunder lizard itself? (please dont say blue) :D

very impressive all in all. i really hope you get those stegadon heads in order and can continue your work. if the HoB guy gives you grief, why not just have a friend order the heads for you?

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update May 6th***)

OK folks...so I get 1 week off.. Wife and I are going to The Riviera Maya in Mexico for our annual no kids, no work, trip. I will return and get started on painting the Thunder Lizard's body.

As of right now, ALL platforms are fully painted and inked. Pics when I return.

CHEERS MATES!

My eyes just salivated.

Have fun on your trip, too.

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update May 6th***)

Well back from a well needed vacation. It was great being in the Mayan Riviera with all the Mayan Ruins around. Lots of great ideas and trinkets were brought back. I believe I will be painting the Thunder Lizard a sun-baked clay red color with a redish bleached bone on the under side. Much like my stegadon I painted here (but different  ):

mini-DSC_0118.jpg

What do you think? (I wanted to shy away from the original green since it is so recognizable.)

Re: Something Big this way comes....(***Update May 6th***)

Welcome back!
Do you think the reddishness might contrast too much with the Slann and general blueness of the mega howdah? Because, it'd be a shame if they did too much....
